Rather than Dublin remaining composed after Mayo’s goal, I felt that they were allowed back into it by Mayo’s loss of composure.
There were four key incidents in this - Keegan’s miss, Parsons standing still and being caught in possession, Keegan handpassing the ball straight to a Dublin player and McLoughlin launching yet another unwinnable ball in on top of a triple marked Aidan O’Shea, which was easily mopped up by Dublin.
Darragh O’Se criticises Robert Hennelly in his article today for his lack of composure for the kickout which immediately preceded the first Dublin goal, but Hennelly had lost composure well before that. Following the Mayo goal, he bombed the next six straight kickouts long and aimlessly - Mayo lost four, and only won another one due to a Dublin player dropping the ball. Mayo did not seem to have any kickout strategy at all in this key part of the game.
I’M glad a dub recognizes I was saying it as I saw it and balanced. As I said the dubs did some excellent things and had to perform when given the chance.
The good thing for them though is they won’t be playing kerry with a memory of struggling after mayo got on top, they will be filled with confidence from the super finish. The reasons sometimes become immaterial. They will also have learned a few things. I don’t think Kerry learned as much from Tyrone who are clearly streets behind all the other semi finalists.
Still expect kerry to have too much, but it sure as he’ll will be interesting. Cian sull would be an incalculable loss though.
If he is out I would be taking kerry on a 2/3 point spread.
O’Sullivan will play. Players don’t miss All-Ireland finals in such circumstances. Whether he’s actually fit remains to be seen.
Kerry have the same defensive failings as Mayo, with better forwards.
Dublin may not be playing quite as fluently this year as they did in 2013, but they’ve been more clinical in terms of goal chances. That’s why I’m leaning slightly towards them.
Having thought about it, Bernard Brogan is probably in the driving seat for FOTY just ahead of McManus. He was outstanding in the replay against Mayo. Very unselfish performance.
