Go to the gym ya lazy cunt
Down who lost to Wexford by five points in the first round of the qualifiers?
That was a serious Wexford side no doubt, I’m sure they went on to have a wonderful run after knocking out such a stellar side as Down?
It’s an imbalance issue.
Exactly. What are you scared of?
I’m not scared of anything. Hardly an imbalance issue if Wexford are disposing of them easily enough.
What’s is place, in the current structure, is grand, you get a second chance so you have to take the good with the bad. That said the current structure needs revising along the lines of what was suggested by McGuinness and the GPA so debating changes to the current qualifier system is a fool’s errand to an extent.
Never going to happen. Donegal or Fermanagh would never leave the Ulster championship to go into Connacht, and two of Wexford, Carlow or Laois entering Munster is not going to improve the competitiveness there one little bit.
It is an imbalance.
And if you’re not scared then why do you object?
The Ulster Championship is a problem, we need to rip it asunder.
More high notions than aspirations.
The qualifiers have failed, but as shown, this has nothing to do with ulster alone.
I don’t think either that a couple of players should be listened too on keeping one championship. Its ridiculous. They talk about getting to croke park and i get that, but they should get there at their own level. This bizarre obsession with having an u18 final on the same day as senior has to stop. Have a Tommy Murphy cup final the same day and promote the shit out of it. Have a reward for it too. Serious holiday, a place in the followinh years Sam McGuire or Div 1 or both or something.
If a competition is going to be run there has to be somethi g to play for. I hurling its a clear disadvantage to win Munster. In football its an advantage to be from ulster or Leinster if you get a run. The league means nothing essentially. That needs an importance. 2 leagues of 8 and then play Sam McGuire with 2 up 2 down in each section to correlate to 2 groups of 8 in Div.2 which makes up the Tommy Murphy. So that means 2 or 3 teams a year can make it into the main All Irela d that were not there the previous years. Most league games would carry an importance.
4 groups of 4 then in championship for both competitions.
That way though provincials won’t work. But having 2 irrelivant competitions and one completely arseways competition as is the way now is ridiculous. Something has to give. The GPA’S suggestion doesn’t really cut anything and is only a short term solution.
The other thing that should be noted, its not a champions league format. CL is home and away and only 1 team gets knocked out completely. I assume with this system being proposed that the games are played in neutral venues. Where as i believe home and away in some format (and home advantage being earned in some fashion) is the way to go. We need Cork away to Galway in an All Ireland 1/4 final or important group game. We need the Dubs away in Tyrone or kerry or Cork. Its the shot in the arm the games need.
Now everyone just waits for august, and to be honest while its intriging, its not that entertaining (for most people) as the game has moved on yet the rules and competitions have not.
Next thing after that then is refereeing and the rules.
But sure the teams in it are no good, we’ve already established that. So that makes it no different to the other provinces.
Where’s the imbalance? Wexford defeated Down. Armagh lost to Galway in round 2. Tyrone scraped by in round 2 against Meath.
Where’s the issue and the imbalance you’re talking about?
They’re doing too much damage to each other, and destroying their own chances of winning the All Ireland. It simply must be disbanded.
Don’t give them an option.
Ffs, they need to take some control
The issue of the imbalance is Ulster teams with high aspirations go into the early round of the qualifiers given the depth of quality sides in Ulster. Tyrone have made 2 All Ireland semi finals in the past three years after being dumped out of Ulster in their first match.
So its been to their advanrage.
They play games and they improve. There is a novel idea.
Personally I have no problem with the championship format as it is. There.
And give me an All-Ireland minor final before a senior final over a Mickey Mouse Cup final any day.
Ignorant big county fan talk
It hasn’t. Tyrone got a lucky draw this year but still could quite easily have had their Championship over in early July.
The qualifiers are a dicey path. I’ve referenced the close shave the 08/09/10 AI champs had coming the qualifier path which you consistently ignore.
Any team would take a soft path to the last 12 than starting out in the first round of the qualifiers.
If you’re not good enough to beat whoever you are dealt with on your second chance then forget about it.
It’s the luck of the draw.
