Coming from a big county has nothing to do with it. The players from the weaker counties have spoken. They do not want a two-tier All-Ireland championship.
The issue is with not with the format. The issue is with some teams being shit and the culture of mediocrity in those counties that means they’re happy with being shit. These are internal issues in these counties. No format change will change that.
So it has fuck all to do with the provinces then.
If your issue is with higher ranked sides meeting in early qualifier rounds, then say that. A seeding based on league rankings could be used to separate them.
Keeping counties apart based solely on what province they come from is retarded. Why the fuck should be Longford and Wicklow be kept apart?
@Nembo_Kid complains about imbalance against Ulster teams due to the Ulster Championship being more difficult and competitive but yet would never countenance getting rid of it.
@caoimhaoin doesn’t think the Ulster Championship is any more difficult than any other provincial championship, yet thinks it should be abolished to create a balanced championship.
No it is nothing to do with that. Teams in the toughest provide will ultimately go out of their provincial championship earlier. To remedy that imbalance, teams from the same provinces should be segregated in order to redress the imbalance of the provincial championship.
It’s to tackle the imbalance of the provincial system.
The Ulster Championship is box office, despite it being a handicap on Ulster sides progressing further in the summer I would never consider axing it for the pure theatre of it. The problem is not really the Ulster Championship, it’s the other three provincial championships.
The way I look at it is you are in the qualifiers because you weren’t good enough on the day to you win your match in the provincial championship and because you weren’t good enough then you have just play whats in front of you. It’s the same for every team in the qualifiers be they from a big county or small county.
If you want unfairness why is it that winners of their Provincials are not given a second chance if they are beaten the next day out?
Maybe they should Just get rid of the qualifiers and have the championship just knockout like it use to be.
The issue here, that you seem to be alluding to, is Ulster teams putting each other out at the early stages of the All Ireland Football Championship qualifier series.
But that is not Dublin’s fault, that is just the luck of the draw. Any Ulster team that looses in the first round of the provincial championship could get an even easier run.
As Sidney said above the main issue is that too many counties are happy being shit and don’t give a shite whether they are competitive or not. The main reason why the introduced the qualifiers was to give counties another chance but the counties don’t give a shit. Just go back to the knockout like it used to be and then there can be no complaints and some counties might even get to finish their club championships on time.
The best teams get thru. Its that simple. If tyrone lost it would have been because they were not good enough and/or prepared enough. They were good enough though and beat some half decent sides.
You basically seem to want ulster teams to get more chances. Its a bizarre outlook/request.
But you don’t want to get rid of the Ulster championship*. So there really isn’t any point moaning about it.
The problem with the Leinster championship is the culture of mediocrity in the rest of Leinster. You can’t blame Dublin for that. Kildare have a population of 210,000 people. Meath has 184,000 people. These counties have real football tradition. They can and should be up there challenging for All-Irelands if they get their act together. That they’re not is their own fault.
No championship format change is going to change that.
