There is always a chance I suppose, but I would have my doubts.
Corks performances have been at odds with each other.
You can’t be getting carried away as consistency is hard earned and cork have not shown too much of it in big games over past few years.
But you have to judge on what unfolds in front of you, and I’m not just going to go against what happens now because of something I observed 6-8 weeks ago. Sport is fickle and confidence is key. It’s a funny thing that can be lost easily.
I more than most see, and talk about. The undoubted talent and potential in cork, what I question is how or is it being harnessed. Yesterday would have to be seen as a very positive step in the right direction. However now the real test comes.
Win and you would see cork most likely into AI semi. Lose, no matter how galant or unlucky and it’s almost impossible to see them getting to a semi as it would be a qualifier the week after followed by dublin the week after that.
Perform well and lose to Kerry and get to 1/4 and perform well and lose to dublin and people will forget about cork when remembering 2015.
Play poorly and beat Kerry and get thru to semi final and people will assume it will be viewed as a good year. But is it? Fickle.
The way I look at it is, get your players, get them very fit and get them playing a style that suits them, motivate them and toughen them. That’s all you can ask. And despite my reservations it would appear, although on the basis of one game, that the cork management have done that.
That’s success in my book.
Kerry had 10 scorers. Cork had 4.
Great to see the Cork supporters behind the management, just like they were when he was appointed. We’ll just skip over the period in between when they lambasted the management from a height however.
What’s the football draw?
Fermanagh v Roscommon
Longford v Kildare
Deservedly so, there was a few a abject performances. The real strength of someone is those address it and try to improve. Credit where it’s due. That’s all it is.
I realise you have a default setting for once you say something you have to stick to it or you judge people off one piece of evidence, usually for evermore. However I’m more flexible with my thoughts and judge things as user them, in the present.
You could learn a thing or two from me ye know.
Cheers mate.
Exciting stuff. How’s their only 4 teams in this round? Overly complicated structure?
Nice climbdown. We await the next about face with huge eagerness.
Its the GAA way. Shame they didnt fix the draw to give us a derby match like Longford v Roscommon. Damn those honest cunts in the GAA.
Maybe he had a plan all along and you should have given him a bit longer before slating him?
As did I
Would you make part of your plan Being beaten by 12 points in the last game ever played at your own famous stadium by your greatest rivals. Or also to be completely demolished in 2 league finals. I saw cork try several plans over the last 2 years. They were full on experimenting up to very recently. You don’t expect miracles or all irelands but you do like to see progress and heart and a solid foundation. That was not there for the last 18 months. Yesterday would have to be repeated more than once to show it really is there. That’s the magic word, consistentcy.
However since to Ronan Mac came back their ball skills and composure have improved considerably. What BC did 't seem to get last year was he could 't do everything and it wasn’t a club team. Now he has an expert fitness coach and an expert football coach and they are having an affect. It probably affords him the time to analyse and plan better. You also had the dual farce last year. This year after the league final it nearly fell apart. But they weathered the storm, made some brave (if obvious) calls and have got some reward.
Last year, poor management. This year, better management.
Learning on the job though is not ideal at IC level.
At the end of 2-3 years then you give a better overall judgement.
The acid test for Cork will be if they can repeat yesterday’s performance in the replay.
When will the fixtures be confirmed for this weekend?
Nah. The gaa have a few lurkers on here and fixed it so that the rossies will have to beat every single nordie team in the qualifiers just to piss nimby off.
Today.
Clones will suit Wexford - our qualifier win against Monaghan in 2006 was one of those magic days when football used to mean something to me. I can’t recall us ever playing too well in Cavan so delighted with the venue.
Is it definitely fixed for Clones @Bandage? Remember Matty kicking points for fun that day in Clones, despite the boo boys. Apparently there was some accusation of stamping doing the rounds…
