It was reported in that light because an Ulster team were involved.
His tactical analysis was absolutely dreadful last year anyway, I listened to a lot of podcasts due to being away and he hadn’t a notion what was going on. Now that’s maybe because he was down at pitch side and was/is too lazy to re-watch games as he admitted himself at the time. You cannot become tactically aware from any one position, you need to spend time on the training field, in the stand, at pitch side etc.
He may well have improved this year as its rare enough I hear them, but its usually late after 9 for the soccer show so he is just engaging in tabloid/pub talk at that stage and in regards to that sport.
Its a shame some genuine journo doesn’t have as good a number as that.
And the biggest media interest team in the country of course.
Fair play to him. Good to hear a proper pressing GAA interview.
I think he does try and ask the decent tactical questions. The previews he does with James Horan are good - they at least address tactics in a way that you don’t hear on RTÉ. Spillane regurgitating the same shit about puke football that he said 10 years ago is tiresome and boring. O’Rourke is clearly a certified idiot.
I haven’t been a Parkinson fan but the last 3 or 4 weeks I’ve happened to listen to his Thursday night pieces and he asks decent questions and kicks off a proper tactical discussion that’s interesting and informative. It’s not all brilliant, but unfortunately sports journalism rarely is.
Also his role isn’t purely to analyse - he’s more of a hybrid between an analyst and a presenter: like a Nick Halling or an Ian Darke.
A Wexford own goal has given Derry a 5 point lead coming up to half time.
1-06 to 0-04
1-08 to 0-04 at HT but Wexford have the breeze in the second half.
A recurring theme with Wexford over the years unfortunately. I seem to recall David O’Connor scoring an own point a few years back.
Tipp winning handy
Leinster Football, for fuck’s sake, tis worse than the Leinster Hurling Championship.
Ya it’s horrific. About time they stopped blaming Dublin and did something about it
Kildare 0-7 Longford 0-1
Kildare 0-8 Longford 0-3
Half time - Kildare 1-10 Longford 0-5
Kildare 1-16 Longford 0-7
Kildare 2-18 Longford 0-7
Kildare 2-24 Longford 0-11
Another qualifier defeat today for Leinster football
Pity they couldn’t put the Galway and Armagh game on TV, feel if both teams play to their potential it could be a cracking game. I was looking at the Galway team and I was very surprised to see they’ve left Danny Cummins on the bench, think he’s a cracking player, bit wasteful with his shooting maybe but his movement and ability to keep showing for the ball are brilliant.
Both midfield partnerships are 22 or under so that should be an interesting battle. Galway will have a size advantage there however. Armagh’s defence has been a big worry all season and they’ve leaked 4 goals in their last two Championship games. I’d also expect Galway to play defensively and get men behind the ball.
There will be changes to the Armagh team, I haven’t seen the bench for Armagh but would suspect if McKeever is fit then he’ll start. Jamie Clarke and Murnin could get a lot of joy out of that full back line if they are as open as they were against Mayo. If Galway end up flooding men behind the ball then Armagh will have to be much more patient than they were against Donegal.
Is there any live radio coverage of this on Newstalk or RTE?
Brolly has some hard on for Jim McGuinness.
