Defensive systems, I don’t think there any many defenders who could handle Clarke 1 on 1 in a wide open game but not many teams play that way anymore. I think Clarke needs to play out deeper for Armagh. He’s never really done it for Armagh in the Championship yet but there is an awful lot of responsibility placed on him to do so.
Going by the sounds of the commentary team today it like both teams set up very defensively but Galway carried more of a scoring threat from distance and Armagh didn’t help themselves by giving away a lot of handy frees. Poor tackling and indiscipline in the tackling sounds like it has been a problem for Armagh the whole way through this year.
I was shocked at the regression in the type of measured and smart game Armagh adopted against Donegal last year to the bish bash bosh football we played in the corresponding Ulster game this year. Armagh have definitely regressed this year. Need to find a few new defenders as well because that’s been the main problem this year. Vernon, Mallon, McKeever, Donaghy and Moriarty are all the wrong side of 30 now as well.
