Its unreal, he reffed them all the way to the All Ireland they won a few years ago.
I have a funny feeling Kerry are somewhat rattled. As always Kerry base their training to hit CP, but particularly semi-final & final time. Many of their players and management were unaware of the permutations of losing MF and playing Dublin in 1/4’s. Rumours are they have struggled all year to keep the feet on the ground of the younger players from last years win. They also have quite a few unhappy subs. And Gooch is not recovered. A lot of them had planned breaks and holidays for the past week as well. They clearly expected to win. Over confidence seems definitely to have been an issue.
Cork exposed the flaws everyone knows Kerry have at the back, however they have to do it again and probably with adding some new dimension. The exact same approach won’t work as well. Its an extremely intriguing replay.
Maher for Sheehan seems obvious and Moran for longer will certainly help them. That allied to its hard to imagine Alan O Connor being as ridiculously good again. James O Donoghue will have got alot from the game and will improve and I expect Geaney to start, possibly instead of Donaghy. I think he’d cause Cadogan more issues with Corks sweeper as he can make intelligent runs unlike Donaghy.
Cork will need to do something different. Not completely different obviously, maintain the patient play with attacking half backs but maybe play 2 sweepers and have mass defence after purple patches for a few minutes and also push up Man-to-man on kickouts. Take the kick out of Kerry who are brilliant after a score against them.
Now its a horrid draw for either team meeting an improving and confident Kildare and then having 6-7 days to get ready for Dublin. Mind you I wonder do Dublin even have enough time to sort out their glaring issues.
Throne are meant to be some men for pinching lads off the ball
I fancy Cork to win the replay on Saturday.
I think Kerry will do them handy. That game was the kick up the hole they need. O’Driscoll won’t be let attack from wing back like that again. Find it hard to believe Kerry lads booking holidays and breaks mid season and a detailed person like Fitzmaurice being unaware of the permutations of a loss. Sounds like bollox.
Can’t wait for the replay now with the stakes so high following this morning’s draw.
I wasn’t giving Cork much chance first time out but they were the better team for 55/60 minutes.
My worry for them would be the players, in their heads, are thinking they may have missed the boat.
I agree with Kev that Kerry have to go with Maher and Moran at midfield but I think they still need to find somewhere for Sheehan for his place kicking alone. I’d expect Geaney and Gooch to start aswell.
Maybe a forward line something like
Walsh - Sheehan - Geaney
Cooper - Donaghy - O’Donoghue
Harsh on Buckley and Keane but can’t play them all
I also fancy Cork to win the replay.
Cork generally have a decent enough recent history against Kerry in replays.
I heard Kerry have been on the piss solid since the draw. Tomás O Sé was invited back into the panel and he arraged a 4 day bender around the ring of Kerry. They may not even show up for the replay.
Paul Kimmage calling the GAA’s lack of investigation of the Davy Byrne incident “unacceptable”.
It’s an obvious point but he’s completely right.
What’s better though is that he says he’s “repulsed” by UFC and that “I would question whether mainstream media should even engage with it.”
Cork people love to think of themselves as cute hoors and masters of yerra. That’s great when it comes to hurling. They can always lie low and pull their traditional mushrooms act on unsuspecting, overconfident Tipperary, Galway or Clare teams.
Even in football, that cute hoor act is usually enough to take care of most counties. The likes of Galway, Mayo, Tyrone, Down etc are generally easy prey to it.
But they’ll always be in the hapenny place compared to the true masters of yerra, and their cute hoorism crumbles away so that they usually end up looking like bumbling, incoherent, hubristic fools, losing vital critical faculties, missing penalties, having players sent off and giving away comedy goals. Cute but not cute enough.
Not this time though. Cork by 5*.
*Kerry by 10.
Management, not the team. Team mostly were due to have club games yesterday. They did not all know about the 1/4 final, that’s a fact.
anyway, may mean nothing, may just refocus them enough. But I think the players have started to think Fitzmaurice will always come up with the plan and they have got a bit uncomfortable.
Sheehan to lazy/immobile for Corks hal back line. H was gassed the last day which led to his huge frustration and lack of discipline
Great game ahead I would think.
Amazing they rolled him out for the leinster final. The way the dubs are motoring joe better not make any holiday plans for late September.
The two finals they won too
I think the year they beat Kery he reffed 5 out of 6 games?
Derry v the baysht in the shhtadium. We never feared derry, anyone named geoffrey have our record against them?
The Baysht never feared Derry.
Comer requires a much better nickname. It’s unimaginative, cliched, and has already been used in rugby union football. It’s like something that a Joe.ie reader would come up with.
This isn’t some some Nancy boy soggy biccy, oh Tarquin is a total beast man, did you see how many reps he did, situation. The genius in the nickname is the spelling and pronounciation pal. He’s not the beast, he’s the baysht.
