Cork and kerry still have to prepare for Div. 1 league.
If they didn’t have to start at the same time as everyone else then i’d agree. Kerry prepared very hard this year for the Tipp game which was in May was it? Around the same time as ulster anyway.
It was pretty bad though and deserved a free. It was frontal and the player was open and coming up with the ball. Not saying he meant to inflict harm, but he was definitely burying him.
Tough on a teenager to be getting wired up for the Christmas.
Smith has come on in leaps and bounds, dont recall him ever standing out that much for me in the past as he has this year. Should have won FOTY in Laois, instead of Lillis.
Incidentally, no harm to see him shave off the dreadlocks, now if he’d do the same with gimpy beard.
The Nire are not a decent side. They got a goal in the first minute against a very mediocre Austin Stacks team last year and barely scored again in the whole match.
Believe what you like. It won’t make you right even if you ignore it.
Your lack of understanding of how team prepare is hilarious.
For what its worth, i don’t see 2016 being good for Kerry. If my calculations are right they have 5 players having operations this winter. Significant players too. I don’t think they are as physically robust as the likes of Dublin and the years of not looking after themselves as well as others may be catching up.
They don’t need to be right until late July/August though, that’s the advantage they have. The top six teams in Div 1 will stay like that this year as both Roscommon and Down are a mile off their level.
Kerry won’t need to come good until later on in the year. They’re already in the last 12 by virtue of beating Clare. They can prepare for late July/August already - worst case scenario is last 12.
Virtually all clubs are dual now in some regard. Hurling has grown alot in West Cork. Only a handful of clubs are one code only now. The only places that really disregards tge other code is East Cork who blatantly disregard the football championship. I believe its only recently finished.
The vast majority of leading clubs in Senior and intermediate are dual and in many cases a good football senior or prem Int team will be a competitive hurling team in their division at Junior and visa versa. May not be their priority but the games still need to be played and the best players are generally the same. Junior divisional champio ships are very competitive.
Next year Newcestown, dual Senior in both will have 32 competitive games(if they don’t win any championship matches) to play as a minimum. Thats 6 months of weekends. Same for Douglas, The Barrs, Bishopstown etc. Its really the same for most teams if both codes are above junior. But in a few cases, Newcestown in particular, its the exact same squad.
Healy for me…basquel with U-21’s I think…was it just me or was there an awful lot of totally one footed forwards on view??..even McCormack for the goal chance that was saved seemed to stop and turn back onto favoured side…or was it just more noticeable because there was so many left footed forwards playing?
Lads Kerry are very good and beat teams easily. Why should Kerry be punished? The dubs also don’t need to be at the best till August because they are very good. Why do you want to punish teams for being very good?
I don’t want to punish Kerry, it’s just a fact that they are guaranteed the last 12 pretty much every year and can easily tailor their plans and preparation for that. Dublin and Mayo are pretty much in the same boat.
Ulster teams have a far tougher route. Donegal and Tyrone faced off each other at the beginning of May and the loser faced a potentially perilous route of knockout football from then on.
No they are in the last 12 every year by virtue of beating a Div 3/4 side. They can tailor their preparation for late July/August every year because the pre-determined draw means they are not going to play knockout football until then. Teams from Ulster don’t have that luxury. They have to be ready to go full tilt from early May.
Nobody is talking about punishing them, what we are talking is about the imbalance of the Championship and the advantages Kerry benefit from the current structure.
