There was a decent enough interview with McMahon in the Sindo I think. Gave good background on growing up in Ballymun and the superb work Paddy Christie is doing there. Apparently he doesn’t drink either.

It’s bizarre the way we feel the need to mention an elite athlete doesn’t drink.

I know loads of people who choose not to drink and not because they have had problems with it or they are sportspeople. They just don’t. It’s actually quite normal.

Fair point, but I don’t think I’d go so far as saying it’s quite normal in this country. And it would be unusual to have never drunk. I mentioned it in the context of it being quite a thoughtful piece and presented McMahon in a slightly different way to his current public persona.

Like everything else from him it’s self indulgent.I read it, and it’s easy enough see thru his “look at me, i’M great” proverbial waving of the hands.

A serious footballer though, and that’s the pity. He is class.
