McGeeney calls for positivity
13 January 2015
Kieran McGeeney. INPHO
Kieran McGeeney has called on the media to be more positive in its portrayal of gaelic football.
The Armagh manager points out that in their haste to generate sensational stories, journalists and headline writers are taking a negative approach:
“Football is going from strength to strength but I think we’re the only sport in the world where we play a bit of Eastenders with our own game - that it’s miserable and terrible. But I suppose that’s more to do with the people commenting on it,” the 2002 All-Ireland winning captain says in The Irish News.
"And then you look at hurling and everything is perfect, brilliant, the best sport in the world. I love watching hurling … I just think we can be a bit more positive about things.
"Unfortunately, positive headlines don’t sell, as I saw last week. I was talking to you fellas about the tackling and the next think I read that I don’t want any rules!
“All of you carried the headline: ‘McGeeney says to play with no rules’. I can’t dictate the headlines.”

I was at it, was disappointed with Tipp truth be told, used the breeze poorly and aside from a 7 or 8 minute spell in the second half they never really got going. Dennis Maher had a solid game at wing forward while Butler had a good battle with Domhnall O’Donovan, that aside little else to write home about. Clare looked a nice bit slicker once they got going after 10 or so minutes with Colm Galvin well on top at midfield before he tired early in the second half, while Bugler beside him had a solid showing too. Conor Ryan, a few wasteful balls aside was also good while Bobby Duggan got through a lot of work and the Clare full forward line had the Tipp full backline in trouble throughout
Cheers.
I saw on a RTE website report that Brendan Maher was named at corner forward, . Where in fact did he play? Did Sean Maher, David Butler & Ronan Maher impress enough to stay in the squad?
Man I wouldn’t be worried.
It is too early yet
Joe says RELAX.
Not ye mice the big teams
