2015 Summer Transfer Window Thread

Contract probably as important. €10m a year for 3 years. Basically taking over the Van Persie budget it seems.

Mental money for him IMO.

I respectfully disagree. It’s about half what they paid for Shaw. He won’t have a reasale value but €18m for one of the best midfielders in Europe who has proven himself over the past 10 years is not a stretch.

Injuries are the only real concern but I’m sure they’ll take out insurance.

Maybe so, but players of his age find it very difficult to adjust to the Premiership. Utd’s midfield is bare enough so the option of resting him may not happen.

It’s not that vastly different a league that he’ll struggle to cope. Adjusting to a midfield that has been neglected for the best part of a decade might be a problem. Adjusting to playing against Danny Drinkwater should be within his capabilities.

No winter breaks though & those Danny Drinkwater types tend to kick hard when they do get close enough. Time will tell.
Bar Depay, LVG’s signings have been uninspiring so far which is great news for this Gooner.

Jordan Henderson is on the cover of FIFA 16 with Messi

EA sports know.

agree

Didn’t realise he was only 30. CLICHÉ ALERT If he looks after himself they could get a good 3/4 years out of him.

He is exactly what United need also

I’ve played in Germany mate - they don’t mind giving stylish players like me a rap on the ankles from time to time.

Esteban Cambiasso was one of the best midfielders in the EPL last season at the ripe old age of 34. I think Schweinstiger will be just fine if he can stay fit

Shaqiri has turned down a move to the best league in the world. Coward. Schalke seems to be the most likely destination now.

Meh. He did finish the season impressively, but he was average at best up to Christmas.

No he was consistently good in a struggling Leicester side and then was excellent towards the end of the season. Missed very few games as well.

Schweinstiger will be a fine addition to United. They aren’t asking him to be a box to box midfielder and cover huge ground. He will sit in front of the defence and look to dictate things similar as to how Carrick did when fit last season. He is a far superior player to Carrick and will be a good addition

Such as?

Zola, Vialli, Larsson, Van der Sar etc: all struggled badly when they moved in their 30s.

El Shaarawy to Monaco for €17m. Strange one, surprised there are not more in for him at that price. This is a bad piece of business for Milan, he has struggled the past two seasons but has been injured.

Agreed. Thought he’d get a better move than Monaco. Hard to know what their prospects are, they can’t seem to decide if they’re a genuine big spending club or not. They sold Ferreira Carrasco to Atletico Madrid yesterday for about the same price.

Shay Given has signed for Stoke possibly to replace Begovic who has joined Chelsea.

I was disappointed to see Begovic go to Chelsea as I think he is an excellent keeper and disappointed to see him at 28 happy to settle for being a second choice keeper

Completely agree. Very disappointing.

Wijnaldum has signed for Newcastle for £14.5m. Very highly rated but hard to think of a worse club to be joining.
