Gleeson roamed throughout the field, did you expect Joyce to follow him into the WD FB line? Joyce held the centre well. No direct runners got through his area for goals. Okay he didnât catch everything that came down on him but he more than held his own.
Centre back for Codyâs Kilkenny is all about holding the centre. Asking Joyce to follow Gleeson all over the shop would be madness. He didnât go well but I donât think we have a better option there that wouldnât leave a Mick Fennelly sized hole in the middle of the field.

Any thoughts as to why Joyce was withdrawn after 49 minutes? Very unusual step to take off a centre back thatâs seemingly going okay and whoâs not injured.

No. I saw him called ashore and walk off the field just in front of where I was sitting. He wasnât injured. He was taken off with more than one third of the game still to play because he was destroyed.
