2016 All Ireland Hurling Semi Final - Waterford v Kilkenny - in the melting pot

I can’t see anything but a repeat of last year. Waterford will try to implement the system and they’ll keep us honest, but we’ll keep them at arms length and win by 6 or 7.

You are being very kind with that score prediction.

They have a better chance than Clare anyway

Kilkenny have announced 3 changes. Prendergast, someone and Hogan for Lennon, Ryan and Larkin.

John Power is the someone. Only change from all-ireland team last year are Power and Farrell for Larkin and Aylward

Anyone have that quote from I think Duignan where he’s fawning over Kilkenny and then they concede a goal while he’s talking? It was quote of the week here for a while

That was the other Biffo. One of my all time favourite pieces of sports commentary :joy:

About half way through this clip -
http://www.newstalk.com/listen_back/10/10788/22nd_June_2014_-_Off_The_Ball_Part_5/

“They met Galway’s challenge, they sucked the life out of Galway, and the difference now is class. Just sheer hurling ability and class.”

“It’s just pure, sheer, utter skill levels at this stage. Galway are tired, the game is opening up, and Kilkenny’s greater skill levels - and they are, they’re way ahead of Galway skill wise - are actually showing at this stage.”

“Joe looks very lethargic today, and Jackie Tyrrell is doing very well on him to be fair about it.”

“I have to say, I’ve been bitterly disappointed with Joe Canning today. He’s playing within a comfort zone as far as I can see.”

“He’s only started to show leadership in the last five or six minutes. He’s won a couple of balls. He has looked a defeated hurler, but then so have the rest of them.”

“And you look at Cody. Mark Kelly has done very well, a great find. When he can off he ran near Cody. He didn’t look at him, he didn’t look at him coming off. He hasn’t looked at one of the Kilkenny subs coming off.”

“Jackie’s coming off there, a cursory glance from Cody. There’s none of this going up and patting him on the back and half apologetic that I’m taking you off. You’re wearing a Kilkenny jersey, that’s the way it’s gonna be. You should be proud to wear a Kilkenny jersey. You’ve done your job. I don’t need to be turning around and…there’s another goal for Galway.”

Agree ye have and well done:clap:

Mullane trying to justify Waterfords style in his column today. An article written out of sheer hope rather than expectation.

One thing that did irritate me though was his comment about the low key build up to the 2008 AIF. Man must be living in a different planet. I was covering Waterford for work during that time and no way they felt they were going to get better. In fairness Dungarvan was an absolute sea of blue and white. The place was unreal. Dito Waterford City. If that’s low key then I’d hate to see what would happen if they actually won tomorrow

Low key

I rest my case

Christ that’s so cringey it’s hard to watch.

And I thought we were bad

Davy wasn’t getting that kind of love in Clare after we won the All-Ireland.

Enda McEvoy’s piece for the game

"Still, there’s no way of avoiding it. A three in a row with this group of players would mark the crowning achievement of Cody’s managerial career.

He won four on the trot with a team that included Henry Shefflin and Tommy Walsh and JJ Delaney and Richie Power and Eddie Brennan.

It was and will endure as a feat for the ages, but those guys were 24-carat superstars. Conor Fogarty and Walter Walsh and Jonjo Farrell, on the other hand, are nobody’s idea of superstars, yet every day they go out they do a job and they do it manfully.

Cody’s men alright. Application and attitude are, and always have been, the foundation stones. If talent were the sole criterion – the overriding criterion, at any rate – John Power would make the starting XV a long way ahead of that trio. It isn’t, therefore he doesn’t."

John Power isn’t that talented at all. He’s overrated based on how good his brother is

He has more hurling than Jonjo Farrell
