That’s a very good Mayo side, some good forwards who can take some points and a big physical and athletic side.
They are a much better side than Dublin but they very nearly threw it away and a couple of incorrect decisions from the referee broke in their favour which decided the outcome.
It was a free but you have just become acustomed to Dublin being allowed tackle illegally.
Duirmuid O’ Connor, who’s leadership was questionable for 20 mins of 2nd half, came good at the end.
Would have rathered Dublin to be honest should we get there. Mayo will match Corks physicality up front and i would worry about our backs against the big Mayo players
The last two Mayo frees which decided the game were both incorrect decisions.
For the first one Diarmuid O’Connor grabbed a hold of the Dublin player - definite free out.
For the deciding free, O’Connor merely fell over. The throw ball which immediately preceded it should have been a free-out, and immediately before that a Mayo player took eight or nine steps with the ball which should also have been a free-out.
Obviously O’Connor should have had a free when he went through seven or eight minutes before that, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that two wrongly awarded frees decided the game in Mayo’s favour.
