In fairness the Nordies would be on top of things like this more than anyone.
Many many people would play it.
Our club tried to do it as a fourth team two years ago and play the games on Friday nights but DCB shut it down - insurance the main issue. There are a couple of Dublin clubs looking to do it with say 11 a side on all weather but not every club has the same facilities.
Whay the fuck is the problem with insurance?
Is it because people are okder?
No I’d say it’s because they are older and more prone to injury.
Bingo
Willis insurers have banjaxed games and competitions all over the country. They’re the ones responsible for the demise of The Masters too, by the way. Wouldn’t provide player injury cover for lads who wanted to play what was a very popular tournament, in fairness.
Their latest one is withdrawing insurance cover for clubs who have people on a CE scheme ( the old Fás men) With the drop in volunteerism, many clubs depend on these lads for maintenance, etc.
Are Willis just the administrators of the scheme? I thought the scheme itself was funded by the GAA and clubs. Surprised someone like AIG with their Dublin GAA connections haven’t provided some input and support with regard to it.
They’re the underwriters. It is indeed funded by clubs and counties with ever-increasing premiums. Your average dual club that competes in both codes from adult down to U12 pays about 4-5K annually. Added to that is the cost of public liability insurance which all clubs are liable for. That’s on a sliding scale which increases depending on what facilities the club has, e.g. bar, function room, gym etc. It will bring the total annual premium up to around the 8K mark in a lot of cases.
Like many insurers, the cost is rising at the same time as the levels of cover are falling.
hoe come normal sports such as football can do it no problem?
What age is deemed masters?
It’s horseshit. Plenty lads in 40s playing competitively still assume they insured through their membership or whatever.
Non contact
Ya and then you have cunts paying 180 euro a year for gym insurance and killing people with Crossfit et al.
Its serious agism and total bullshit.
Club down at home played an over 40’s tournament as part of the festival. Had alot of problems with some of the committee in relation to insurances but the secretary just registered us all as players.
We got invited to another tournament and played 5 matches over the summer. Brilliant fun and apres match as well.
Highlight was playing a Toomevara team with the Dunnes etc., alot of them with 10 county senior medals. Paddy O’Brien came on, hit 2 points from the sideline and walked back off again. We’re starting training in January…
Killenaule?
Can’t find the balaclava smiley…
Decent contest in Portlaoise .
Game over in 60 secs .
Why wasn’t Niall McNamee taking that? Makes little sense.
Dreadful penalty.
Vincents are insanely cynical. Worst i have seen for a while. Helping that though is the naivity of Rhode who don’t seem to have learned from the past at all.
You’d have got some odds on McNamee missing that
