Ohio State should never have been there. They didnāt make their conference title game and lost their head to head with the eventual conference winners. Penn State were also the form team in the latter stages of the season, and would have matched up better with Clemson.
It would probably be the same final pairing anyway, but the commitee got this one wrong. They backed themselves into a corner the week before the conference finals by declaring OSās lead too large to overtake.
