2016 Ulster Senior Football Championsip - Its happening again

That looks quite an experimental team with a good few changes from last year’s championship.

I’d expect several changes from Sunday’s team if Tyrone are to compete in the last eight or last four in August.

Conor Clarke and Joe McMahon seem to be almost permanently injured these days.

From recollection there are 5 changes from last year’s semi with Kerry.

M O’Neill for Morgan - enforced, Morgan broke his hand a few weeks back and missed the league final. I’m surprised to see him back on the bench so soon.

Sludden for Justy - enforced Justy is injured and the most likely replacement is Rory Brennan and Joe McMahon who are also injured. Sludden was pretty much an ever present in the league campaign playing across the half back and forward lines. I don’t think he will start 6 on Sunday.

Richie Donnelly for McNabb - again enforced as McNabb just made his return from a cruciate injury recently and will probably be another month or two before he’s back in action. Richie Donnelly has had a superb league campaign and was MOTM against Derry in the league meeting in Omagh. He was always likely to start.

McShane for Meyler - again enforced through injury. This is the surprise choice for me. McShane had limited involvement in the league this year and hasn’t been overly impressive when with the senior team. He will need to step it up but Harte clearly rates him.

R O’Neill for McCurry - this one is purely down to form and O’Neill has had a good league campaign, scoring points and doing reasonably well on frees. McCurry conversely has been struggling with form and niggling injuries. Again, he was always likely to start.

I have an inkling Frank Burns will come in for McShane on Sunday and play at 6 with one of Harte or Sludden pushing into the HF line.

Derry lead Tyrone 0-08 to 0-07 at HT in the minor clash.

Young Mattie McGleenan with a brace of points for Tyrone.

Hon Derry!

What’s the weather like up there?

There will be showers, stiffish breeze.

Derry 0-13
Tyrone 0-09

9 mins left in the minor game.

Derry 1-15
Tyrone 0-10

FT.

Both teams start as named.

I’m hoping for at least as much hatred in the air as at Hampden Park yesterday.

My suspicion is that Tyrone, much as I don’t really like them, are the only team capable of putting it up to Dublin this year.
Time will tell (maybe).

Minute silence here for Aidrian Cush’s mother who passed away recently.

That was an awful effort from Johnston there.

Derry getting plenty of players behind the ball which was not their style during the league.

Great free from Kielt.

That was a savage score.

First scrap on 4 minutes.
