Itās a little tradition of mine to read Jackieās and PMās pieces on a Friday morning.
Daithi made some good points about the Galway mentality in finals. He mentioned 81, 90, 12 and 15 and how Galway were in great positions at half time and hurling well, only to come out in the second half and implode. It is my biggest fear. I have no doubts the hurlers are good enough. Iām hoping Iāll be proven wrong but I think a lot of them lack the necessary bottle. It reflects well on himself that Whelan is already a leader at 20 but it does not reflect well on the rest that he needs to be.
Ye canāt both implode mate.
Oh they can. I mentioned it a few months ago. A battle to maintain tradition and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Speaking of Whelan, a good omen for Galway is when they finally made the breakthrough in 1980 it was a red headed flyer who put in a MOTM performance.
PM comes across better on print than verbally. Youād never think they were the same person. Iām sure thereās a name for those types of people. cc @Malarkey.
I find this game very hard to call. I have deliberately not read anything or anyone on it who is actually analysing it. I have enjoyed some of the more fluffy articles that seem to be coming more out of Galway.
I also really enjoy anything Derek McGrath writes/answers. I think we see the real man there. I think his honesty is great without being too much. Iād actually love yo sit down with him and get his meaning of their system which he invites people to do.
Galway are a serious outfit, but at the same time i felt they kinda left an underperforming Tipp in it in the semi. I donāt think they will find their main men as easiky either. Tipp are a little too honest (oldschool lets say) in their set up. I think there is a balls nāall element to the Galway backs that Waterford with cute fuckers like Brick, Moran, Barron, Bennett and Dillion might expose. Who are they going to use on Gleeson. Its almost a certainty that he will do somethibg mad. As long as its not being sent off its ok cos its equally as certain he will do something brilliant. I would consider Waterford playing one man really deep for a while. As in on the endline and then having a few hugging the sideline in their forward set up. Galway are super fit but i donāt believe they have a conditiin advantage. In fact it could be argued a real running game played very wide would give Waterford an advantage. Big men do tire faster. All things being reasonably even a smaller well conditioned gurler will last longer than a big man.
If Waterford reach 2 goals they win. I cannot see Galway scoring more than 1. Maybe a penalty or something.
I think we will get 90% of what we normally get from Waterford with a twist. What that is i do not know. I expect thoigh we get 100% of what we expect from Galway.
It may well come down to the battle between tge stoucness of OāDonoghues plan v. that little stunt i expect McGrath to have. I think its that close but simple.
Waterford 3-13 Galway 1-17. With Waterford people in an absolure mess for the last 3 mins as Galway rain ball down on them and probably leave a couple of handy points behind.
Thats partially me wanting Waterford to win. The passion and hunger they have and the many friends over the years are part of that. But i also want a coach like McGrath to be successful.
It rocked me to my very core anyway.
Independent reporting Johnny Glynn I is in line to start.
This Galway side are the fittest team in the country. You are mad if you think they are giving up 3 goals. Not a prayer. It will be death by a thousand cuts for Waterford. As they sit deep Galway will pick them off with their sharpshooters all day long. When you really boil it down it will come down to which team has the most scoring potential and that is Galway. Waterford will try to maybe push up after half time when they are 3 or 4 points down and Galway will rattle 2 goals to kill them off.
Galway hurling is infested with erythropoietin and other performance enhancing drugs, get a big fat * ready.
I heard that from a very reliable source also ā
Galway have been the best team all year and although they beat Tipp by the minimum, they got over the line. Waterford are not better than tipp. Galway have the best set of players in the country and are getting the best out of them. They will beat waterford by a few points.
I might add i tipped Galway to to win the AI this year shortly after last yearās final and havenāt deviated from that all year.
Thatās why youāre one of the top 5 smartest posters here.
I have a knot in my stomach already. I donāt know what Iāll be like by Sunday.
You lucky, lucky bastard.
That is so true. We would take the knot problem without a monents consideration
Tyrell basically paints Waterford as unbeatable before plumping for Galway.
I donāt think there is much between the sides fitness tbh
