Why? Who is responsible for his complete ignorance and inability to admit being wrong? Thats a very significant human defect, but is hugely environmental.
Why is that out of bounds compared to any of the nonsense he throws out?
It just goes to show you how dangerous the qualifiers can be. You are consistently dicing with death in them. It must be great to be in an easy province like Munster where you get parachuted into the last 12 year on year.
After Donegal struggling past a rubbish Longford side yesterday the merits of the Tyrone win over them needs to be taken down a few notches.
Derry are out. Based on the established TFK protocols they get absolutely zero credit for the draw against mayo because they completely filled the togs in extra time and were obliterated. Derry are shit.
Sure nearly half of last yearâs panel didnât commit for Derry this year. Mayo needed extra time to get past them but what matters is they did.
Donegal got a win on the board which was all they needed to do.
On the whole, there were limp performances from Donegal, Mayo and Meath yesterday but itâs not unusual for sides to struggle in the early qualifier rounds.
Thereâs a track record of teams plodding their way through the qualifiers before turning it on in August/September. Itâs always best to avoid the perils of the qualifiers and win your province which is why Kerry have a leg up every year beating the cannon fodder of Munster.
You cannot make excuses for one county and then ridicule another.
In a county system like we have in Ireland responsibility is very broad. Strong and progressive leadership at CB is needed. A robust county championship, a reasonably happy (thus playing regularly) club delegates and teams, a progressive manager with some bit of suitable education and practical experience behind him, a link to decelooment squads etc and a general mutual appreciation for each other, especially in dual counties.
So if Derry have lads good enough to play but are not available, tgen thats everybodies fault, but esoecially the CB.
My club has an entire team of senior standard footballers not playing. A small parish not using 15 adult of playing age olayers. Its insane, but its a shit club so why would they bother. Cork has hurlers and footballers not committing, because it is not worth it. Thats primarily the CBâs fault but its also a weakness from clubs and players. So everyone has a responsibility.
So you cannot have it both ways. Excuses allowed, or completely not.
Iâm of the no excuses variety.
Ulster football is not great. They are not producing smart footballers anymore with maybe the exception of Monaghan and maybe Donegal. You talk to anyone involved in county development squads or Feiles or any of that and they will tell you Ulster clubs and counties are develooing teams to âwinâ, and win early at 14/15/16/Minor etc. Not how to âplayâ And they have systems and power. By all accounts the Burren were a classic example last week who were described to me as âreminded me of the Conor Counihan Cork team of 2000âsâ. You hear the same about development squads, minir teams, Sigerson. Over instructed play.
Thats what will keep Ulster down for the foreseeable
Iâm not making excuses. They are just facts that a lot of the better players in Derry have made themselves unavailable for county football.
Until Derry address that they wonât do much. Thatâs a fact, not an excuse.
Is Ulster football not great?
A half strength Derry side just put it up to Mayo for a good 70 minutes yesterday. You were bigging Monaghan up big time and so far they have scraped past Cavan before being dumped out by Down.
I would say natural order will be restored this year and Ulster will have the highest proportion of quarter finalists, as per usual.
When Down rise, history tells us that Derry arenât far behind.
That view has been reinforced by yesterday.
There is serious football talent in Derry and if Damien Barton can get the players to commit in the same manner Down have this year, it wonât be long before theyâre challenging at the business end of the championship again.
They are not half strength. They have all the major players and few if any of the guys âmissingâ have pedigree. So it is an excuse you are making for Derry. They are as good as they can be.
Its alot more than names on a sheet.
They put it up to Mayo because
a) they are half decent and have a number of excellent footballers
b) Mayo are very slow movers in terms of championship performances and may well have gone back a touch. But again we donât know yet.
Kerry win All irelands after poorer displays against worse teams than Derry.
I am not sure what natural order you are on about. We would need a maths & formula expert to tell us ehich province is most successful based on making last 8 (which i actually agree is a decent barometer of a championship). As Ulster has 9 teams, thus more opportunity etc. So it would have to be weighted and obciously from time of qualifiers.
