Rossies knew weâd be hell bent on Mayo, and they had 6 months to train for todayâs match. They targeted all the weak links (FB line, kick outs, etc.) and they handed out a serious fucking beating. Vindication for McStay. Walsh out.

They could have beaten us by a lot more if they could shoot they wasted as much as we did. In fairness I gather Walsh was on the sideline roaring at them to push up, but the concession of the first half goal had them petrified about being exposed at the back. The ref was harsh on Kyne a few times for minimal enough contact, Lavelle is a train wreck though. A lot of lads who love social media appearances in their Galway gear but arenât willing to fight like dogs, except comer who was just frustrated.

Did Roscommon beat Leitrim at home and then Galway to win Connacht? FFS sake. Essentially 1 proper match to secure silverware. The SPFL is more difficult to win than that.
Worst thing is Walsh has known since last year that the Rossies would be waiting in the Connacht Final if they beat Leitrim. If he had spent more time focusing on how to beat them rather than putting evertything in to figuring out how to overcome Mayo then maybe the outcome wouldâve been different.
It was clear this year they were focusing on the Championship after their league relegation, a total change from last year when they put a huge effort into the league but it caught up with them in the summer.

The were cleaned out in midfield early, then went too defensive for the rest of the game. They dropped back all second half and most of the first. That was the problem. What were you watching
Roscommon had about 5-6 decent goal chances straight through the middle mate. Are you trying to tell me the defensive system wasnât a problem?
They had bodies there, they just werenât tuned in, and just like last year let a far inferior team easily through

I agree with @caoimhaoin as regards Comer. It wasnât his fault Galway lost and nor was it his fault against Tipperary last year.
Galway have a lot of talent but they drop their heads far too easily when things go against them. Comer is one of the few that doesnât.
You can talk about the leadership Galway had from 1998-2001 and about players like Kevin Walsh, Tomas Mannion, Sean Og De Paor and Niall Finnegan all you want. You could even throw Ja Fallon into the mix.
Fact is those players were all involved for years with Galway teams before 1998 and the sum total of what they produced was one facile Connacht title in 1995 at a time when Connacht football was down on its knees. They all played in defeats by Leitrim and poor Mayo teams.
So what sort of real leadership had they shown before 1998? I canât think of much.
Galway probably need a better manager than Walsh but they have serious forward talent and still have the potential to be top 4 over the next few years.

A lot of truth in that, Sid, Iâm just seething after the match today and I had to vent my anger. Comer was targeted for getting involved in that brainless shit at the end but Iâm certainly not placing all the blame at his door.
Very true about the team pre '98. Have memories of Martin MacNamara sending kick out after kick out over the sideline in the defeat to Mayo in 97 and he took dreadful flak for it.
There was talk about them being ready to make a breakthrough that year but Val Daly paid the price for the defeat and was replaced by OâMahony the following year. MacNamara was brilliant the following year in the run to the All Ireland.
I wholeheartedly agree, they need to look to someone other than Walsh to bring them to the next level. In fact, leaving Walsh in charge can only inflict further damage down the line and hold back the progress of younger lads coming through like Michael Daly.
I wonder if they might look to James HoranâŚJust like OâMahony, he came so close with Mayo. His involvement this year with the Turloughmore Hurlers might be a gateway into the Galway set up. I think they should offer it to him anyway, he could only improve things.

There are surely better defenders than that full back line in Galway.
Roscommon played some nice football today and were deserving winners but I think it really needs to be evaluated in terms of how bad Galway were and how easy they made.
That Galway keeper is fairly shocking too.
Mossy Quinn and Gooch Cooper felt this should also have been a straight red card and they also highlighted a sly rabbit punch by Cillian OâConnor that warranted a red card too. I missed that at the time as I was making myself a sandwich after getting in from Wexford Park.
