Thereâs no way he has 5 aliases on the go⌠but iâll let him clear that up himself.
Youâre one of the best Gaelic football minds in this place.
@ChocolateMice has the football snobs rattled here.
Iâm @ChocolateMice and soâs my wife.
Youâve a great way of judging posters.
They donât like it up em. He has them badly rattled.
Jesus I canât believe I am going to say this but MBB is 100% correct. The tactic for playing AOS at full back worked last weekend and I can see him sticking with it this weekend.
Taking away the long ball, takes away the easy or for Kerry players. They donât want to concede easy goals, unfortunately Donaghy is more than a 1 trick pony.
Donaghy is more than a one trick pony but by putting AOS back there mayo had someone to compete with donaghy for the high balls which eliminated a big threat to Mayo. Rochford then had the confidence in the rest of the defence to handle everything else.
Every possible candidate to mark Donaghy has negatives surrounding them.
Aidan OâShea doesnât have natural defensive instincts and stood off Donaghy a lot. He takes away a major kickout option by staying back and takes away a major attacking running option.
Seamus OâShea covers a huge amount of ground in midfield, possibly more than anybody else on the Mayo team. A lot of people are suggesting him to mark Donaghy on the basis of one ball he knocked down, which still ended up as a goal. Another unknown quantity as regards real defensive instincts.
Keegan would probably be able to do the job but Mayo need a much bigger contribution attacking-wise from him than in the drawn game.
Vaughan covers an awful lot of ground out the field. He can take a point on a the run but more importantly occupied Johnny Buckley and took him right out of the drawn game, which was crucial as it effectively took out a key Kerry link man in the absence of Donnacha Walsh, who is their key link man.
Barry Moran - has the height and has played in defence before as a sweeper, but seriously lacking game time.
Boyle - defensively capable of doing the job but a huge attacking force so again youâd be losing that. But heâs used to playing close to his own goal.
I think Iâd go with Boyle or Vaughan as their role out the pitch is more easily replicated by somebody else than is the case with either OâShea or Keegan.
Iâd actually question whether Donaghy will have the legs to go much beyond half-time. He tired noticeably in the second half of the draw, is 34, and this will be his second big game in six days.
He was 31 and had only come on as a late substitute in the 2014 draw going into that replay. But you could say the same for Andy Moran.
I think the replay will follow a similar general pattern to the draw but probably with different players coming to the fore in the way the didnât in the draw.
With just a six day turnaround legs will be an issue in the last 20 minutes and with Kerry having greater depth this is where they hold a real trump card. Mayo have to trust some more of their bench this time. Were it only a 15 man game theyâd win, but itâs a 21 man game.
Weâll need proof of these accusations squire
For real. Iâm fucked if iâm going back looking for that.
Is a six day turn around really a factor for inter county level players? Club players do it all the time without issue. Comparable athletes would probably be part time soccer players and they do such turnarounds every week. Even Donaghy himself would have done it all winter in basketball.
Maybe a mental fatigue playing huge games two weeks in a row but I canât imagine it would be physically an issue. I couldnât think of anything better to be honest, waiting all year for it and then you get two massive games two weeks in a row, youâd be bouncing.
You just donât get it fella.
I donât really care what percentage you give Tyrone but I certainly give them around that much a chance.
[quote=âcaoimhaoin, post:7264, topic:23156, full:trueâ]Understandable in ways and especially when you start out that you learn by defeats/mistakes etc. But it has taken him 3-4 years to learn the game had evolved. He completely underestimated the forward ability of teams like Mayo, Dublin and Kerry by thinking he could upset them pyrely thru ugly defending.

Tyrone had to replace a great team, most of whom retired within a short space of time. Itâs a credit to Harte that he usually kept them very competitive.
Tyrone were the better team against Mayo last year and won the tactical battle. They basically lost because Cavanagh was sent off and because they hit three wides at the end. They had Kerry on the ropes big time in 2015.
Winning is the only thing that matters and Harte is empowering Tyrone to win, just as McGuinness did with Donegal.
Dublin couldnât find a way in in 2014, they couldnât find a way in against Mayo last year when their players got 0 goals from play in two finals. They couldnât get a goal against Kerry in their last two championship clashes.
