Mayo beat Meath in 1951 final. In the lead up to Mayo facing Meath in the 1996 final, Mayo’s semi final win over Kerry was regularly cited as a lucky omen.
In fairness 96 was their best performance in all Ireland final since 51 which may be some comfort?

I got ridiculed for defending Cadogan and Shields a few years ago when Kerry destroyed them in last game in PIC. Thing aS the tactics from Cutbert were a joke and exposed them. New rules and more aware officiating make it way harder to be a filthy corner back

I know a former team management member and despite trying to distance himself he was getting contacted by players saying it was a joke aet up. He was not 100% if it was bitterness or what from being dropped etc in some cases but the signs were there.

Check gavin cummiskey twitter feed…he posted a pic of his article yesterday which was based on interview with one of players who was injured and retiring. Now I dont think timing was fair really when they had still a game to play but its a serious booting for Tierney (who stepped down/fired after)
Tierney had been at Con for a spell and did Ok there results wise but had heard few bits and pieces over time wouldnt fill me with confidence. The womens gig is probably a decent stepping stone if you made a go at it. Standard of most of it was very poor, like a junior mens side like ballincollig would have beat ireland handy…but the top few teams were playing a decent standard and would have been playing warm ups against mens ubderage sides
He missed out playing 5 gigs in Croke Park a few years back . So maybe this year ?
