You said Tyrone would beat Dublin, now you are saying we shouldnât read too much into the result. Fuck sake.
Mayo are the only team that regularly rattle the dubs. They will do so again in two weeks but they need to win as well as rattling them.It will be good for football to see Mayo winand show that yes the Dubs can be beat.
I wasnât the only one to wrongly think Tyrone were ready to really put it up to Dublin and perhaps even beat them, mate.
The biggest indictment I can make of Tyroneâs performance is that Dublin didnât even have to be that good to win very comfortably.
The limitations of Tyroneâs system were no doubt exposed but even within the parameters of that system they systematically underperformed - certainly when it went to 1-3 to 0-2, it was already clear to those in the crowd that their race was run and it was obvious they thought so too. The main reason Colm Cavanagh was generally said to have emerged with credit from the game was that he was the only Tyrone player who showed the necessary aggression both with and without the ball - the difference between him and his team mates was obvious in this regard - they just completely went into their shell. Mayo might well lose the final but thereâs no fucking way I see them going into their shell in such a manner. They will hit Dublin with all theyâre worth for 70 minutes.
Despite being massively superior in all aspects, itâs not exactly a glowing recommendation of Dublin either that Tyrone were within six points of them with eight or nine minutes left.
Tyrone came into that game with an average 12 point winning margin this year*. Mayo have drawn with Roscommon.
Dublin were that good that day. They made it look easy.
*RTE radio stat I assume is correct
Dublin didnât give a fuck about the winning margin until the subs came on. Their whole plan against the blanket is to retain possession. That changed near the end when the game had opened up and Flynn, Daly and OâGara went gung ho for the goal to get themselves in shop window. Flynn in particular was far more direct than any of the starters.
Tyrone winning margin all accrued against sides worse than roscommon
The minor final is now out of the way and we can get on with the real business.
I believe the referee is to be announced today?
Iâd like to see the excellent Joe McQuillan (Dublin) do the honours once again.
Any word on ref ? Due to be announced today I believe.
I think Dublin wanted to see how Joe McQuillan handled their A v B internal game yesterday morning before deciding on whether to okay his appointment or not.
Thatâs fantastic, force them to buy the Ladies tickets as well
So 350 a head for a ticket to the all Ireland, a breakfast, one Dublin jersey between the ten of ye and being forced to listen to Ciaran Whelan.
Would it be tax-deductible though?
Be interesting to see how many of those tickets for Preview Breakfast that they will sell.
I hope âMossyâ didnât do up the graphic to for the event himself.
It doesnât exactly sell it.
Hi Shane
Joe McQuillan has been appointed to referee the final.
Congratulations to Joe McQuillan (Dublin) who has been officially named as the referee for the Dublin-Mayo final.
Congratulations @Bandage for revealing the news five seconds before me.
Wasnât Dublin Joe the ref when they beat Mayo by a point in 2013?
Mayo were two points down at the death, got a close in free straight in front of the goal, Cillian OâConnor had a quick chat with the ref, tapped it over, Cluxton wasted a few seconds before kicking it and the ref blew it up for full time much to Mayoâs fury.
Think it was McQuillan anyway.
Gough probably would have got it but for Mayo-Kerry going to a replay.
McQuillan has refereed two All-Ireland finals: the 2011 decider between Dublin and Kerry and the 2013 decider between Dublin and Mayo.
