Apples and orangemen.
I highly doubt that. But Dublin did put in one of their greatest ever performances in the semi-final last year, so to say Dublin didnât have the sort of ammunition then that they do now is nonsense.
And it would be a big mistake to judge Mayo on last yearâs performances.
I wouldnât agree.
I think Tyrone would probably have beaten Kerry had they come up against each other in a semi-final this year. I think their game plan and style would have upset Kerry hugely.
But it was hopelessly inadequate against Dublin and their players stood off Dublin far too much.
Styles make fights though and Mayo have the style to unsettle Dublin. And if they donât, nobody does.
Who the fuck knows what ll happen. Thatâs what makes it great. I still think Dublin will be too strong in the end. Also wouldnât be surprised if Gavin dropped CoC and possibly Scully and brought in Connolly and O Gara/Flynn. The first 20 mins could be brutal and that bit of pure battle experience may be required.
I thought it was a really shit article by McGuinness. Press them towards the sideline with your backs while all your forwards come at them from behind to stop them recycling the ball backwards. Yeah, a 9-man press from the from the front with a cohesive and complementary 6-man press from behind to pen them into the sideline should work.
Itâs hard to say what will happen.
I think Dublin will win by 6 points plus. Mayo toasted the legs off an aging Kerry team with a decrepit full back line the last day, but youâd expect Dublin to keep Andy Moran well under wraps. Collectively the Dublin forward line has a lot more size and power than the Mayo defence and this could be a bit of a problem for Mayo, particularly if they donât employ a sweeper. From having a look at the match programme in the game against Tyrone, Dublin donât have one player who is under 5ft11 and hardly any player under 13 stone.
I think Dublin should start Connolly off the bench, Keegan has had the upper hand on that duel over the years and I think it would unsettle Mayo when he comes off the bench as they will likely have to change their match ups then.
As much as people say Dublin should be tempered by their facile win over Tyrone, Mayo equally should be tempered by how poor Kerry were in their semi final.
Mayo are the only team who have proven themselves against Dublin consistently over the past few years but I think the gap may have widened, I fancy Dublin to hit at least two goals on Sunday and if they do then I canât see Mayo winning.
Starting Connolly would mean Keegan would have to go onto him however, denying him the opportunity to pick up someone else, say a Kilkenny. Same with Paul Flynn, start Flynn, and Colm Boyle is automatically tied up with him, instead of a Con O Callaghan.
At the end of the day, it comes down to Dublins bench, as it generally has done these past few years.
Last year it came down to COC and a very scorable free
Nothing to do with Dublin being able to drop two footballers of the year before throw in, with Fitzsimons, Andrews and Mannion in for MacAuley, Brogan and Byrne? And then having the ability to spring Byrne, Brogan, Macauley, Costello, Lowndes & Daly over the course of the 70 minutes? Costello alone scored 3 points from play in 14 minutes.
But yea, it was all COC missing a kickable free.
The free would only have levelled matters anyway. A draw is only worth something if you win the replay. Cc @croppy_boy
And with all of those things in their favour they were still unable to kill the game off over 140 minutes?
Dublin by 8.
Yes. Whats your point?
Ultimately it was.
I see what you did there
This is fake news.
Anybody know did David Brady make it down for âbreakfastâ* this morning?
*Legalised corporate ticket touting
Ticket touting is legal.
Rugby internationals are run on these breakfasts.
Clubs farm out tickets for lunches.
Wonder how Dublin GAA have taken these tickets away from clubs though or where the allocation is coming from. Ten tickets and say 20 tables.
AIG get a lot of tickets as part of their sponsorship deal as I am sure other sponsors do.
And for money-spinning raffles.
Dublin play out on the sideline to keep the ball away from the men in the centre and work openings in the middle, pressing men out onto them at the sideline would play right into their hands, as it would require space to be made in the centre.
Tyrone had all 14 men behind the ball at times and still couldnât stop Dublin picking out runners. Now Mayo are better than Tyrone, but the point is those tactics donât work. You need to keep bodies up the field to occupy the Dublin defenders so they canât be making runs through the centre constantly and in order to do that you canât have them all back holding the centre.
I think Mayoâs best hope is to play largely as they have been, theyâll need to trust their bench more as Dublin wonât be afraid of emptying theirâs, and press the kickouts. Iâd also take OâConnor off the frees. Mayoâs backs have a very decent record against Dublinâs forwards, itâs the Mayo forwards who have let them down in previous encounters, but to be fair theyâve been motoring much better this year.
Itâs difficult to know how good Dublin are after that Tyrone game, but I donât think Iâve ever seen a performance like it, fluid tactically, brilliant in defence (the tackling was superb) and awesome at taking scores. I canât see Mayo beating them, but if they go more defensively as Jim suggests they havenât a prayer.
Huh?
