It has no relevance to the qualifiers and the issue u see controversy . It is Colm trying to look smart

Its an outstanding point, one made by a very astute and intelligent poster on here earlier this morning.

Athy was the venue for Carlow’s lone Leinster Final win in 1944. One of only two occasions in last century it was played outside of Croke Park.

I can’t recall an important match in Athy since Camross v Clara in 1986.

but utterly irrelevant to the issue under debate .

Don’t forget your shovel if you’re workin’ for the Gah
Oh don’t forget your shovel if you’re workin’ for the Gah
Don’t forget your shovel if you’re workin’ for the Gah

'Cause you’ll end up digging on the radio
Digging, digging, digging. Ow di liddle do.

And don’t forget your shoes and socks and shirt and tie
And all
Don’t forget your shoes and socks and shirt and tie and all
Mr Milton’s afraid you’ll make a claim if you take a fall
How’s it goin’ – Not too bad – Ow di liddle do

And we want it played in Croker but we’re always diggin’ holes
We want it played in Croker but we’re always diggin’ holes
Ye want it played in Newbridge but we’re always diggin’ holes
Well there’s one thing you can say – we don’t know where we are going.
Any chance of a match – No – OK – Ow di liddle do

And if ye want to do it – we’re going to take our ball
If ye want to do it – ye can raise it in the Dail
But ye won’t be playin’ a football match at all

There’s a jacks up in the corner where they won’t see you at all.
Mind your flourbags.

The Gah will give us a job, diggin’ our way to Annascaul
The Gah will give us a job, diggin’ our way to Annascaul
The Gah will give us a job, diggin’ our way to Annascaul
And when we’re finished diggin’ the hole will be deeper and all

Now there’s six thousand five hundred and fifty-nine Lillies over there in Newbridge all trying to see the football
and very few of them boys is going to see anything at all
– I think that’s terrible.

Don’t forget your shovel if you’re workin’ for the Gah
Don’t forget your shovel if you’re workin’ for the Gah
Oh, don’t forget your shovel if you’re workin’ for the Gah

'Cause you’ll end up digging holes on the radio
Digging, digging, digging. Ow di liddle doooooooooooooh

Cian O Neill is giving the press conference at 5. Fair play to Cian, we all know how much he hates the media spotlight, but hes insisting on being the public face of this Kildare stand. Cant imagine what other things he could be better using his time for this week.

The Camross v Clare game in 1986 was more notorious than important :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Bornacoola’s finest Fergal McGill will be proven right here.

Great thinking by him to maximise the non venue for Cavan/Tyrone as well as the Newbridge situation for the financial benefit of the volunteers of the GAA. Of course keeping our Sky Sports partners on side is vital as well for the benefit of growing the games abroad.

Mayo would only beat Kildare in Newbridge anyway.

There are those in the gaa top brass who won’t mind sky being blamed for this but the reality is sky have nothing to do with this decision or weren’t even a factor.
Gaa wanted more money than Newbridge could make them which is well and good if it’s a business but this is an amateur Sport. Kildare need to be backed here by ordinary rank and file members.

what’s the story with made up rivalry your trying to pretend exists with klldare and Laois?
have there any games of note in recent years or is it over something stupid like the positioning of the toll bridge on the M7/8? ,

was there a dodgy decision here or something?

Sky deciding venues is a disgrace.

Where did they do this?

I wonder did sky have any input at all into this ? I really can’t imagine Rupert Murdoch in NYC bellowing down the phone to some GGA suit to put 2 games at CP on Saturday evening .

One thing however , the spud hockey finals on Sunday have been overshadowed .

A small subset of posters on a niche INTERNET forum waits.

There’s never talk of hurling until Thursday/ Friday… I’m sure there’s plenty going on in Clare - the place has gone mad.

The place is always mad kid .

Must be on OTB online. They’re discussing college accommodation now on it

This whole thing plays hugely into Mayo’s hands. They probably would have beat the Lillywhites anyway but with all the circus surrounding a stand off over the venue the Kildare players will have a weight of expectation on them to justify all the fuss and not to fall flat on their faces. Prior to this they’d have been going in to the match with nothing to lose. All in all a disaster for their hopes of staying in the championship whatever the outcome now.
