It’s heartbreaking sometimes sport.
They won an All Ireland minor and u21 double with the same age group a few years back and have hardly brought anything of note in off that, bar DOC. You have guys like Loftus, Coen etc there but they don’t really convince.
Great me bollucks. They were useless.
You certainly can’t question their heart and desire.
O’Connor ran himself into the ground today, I don’t think I’ve seen a player cover so much ground like he did today.
Cork played them in the 21 I think and only McGuire is worth a fuck if I remember team right
Could have been a bad year
Tyrone and Donegal were favourites in Ulster but Tyrone beat Donegal and then they fell to Monaghan.
Mayo beat Roscommon with a last minute goal in Connacht if I recall correctly.
Probably the end for Rochford now too.
Sport is cruel, they’ve been so resilient to come back year after year but they looked shot and burnt out today. Still fought to the end as all great teams do but the writing has been on the wall for a while.
That decision to drop Clarke for the All-Ireland replay a couple of years back is possibly the worst on pitch managerial decision in living memory.
It proved a mistake, but you could see why he did it. Clarke this evening repeated the mistakes he made towards the end of the drawn 2016 All-Ireland final by floating kickouts straight to Kildare’s big men.
Players are generally reluctant to quit after All-Ireland final defeats, particularly agonising ones.
You’ll likely see a few retirements now from that Mayo team.
Clarke, Moran, Boyle, maybe Higgins. They were destined to never win it.
Higgins looked finished tonight
Pearse Hanley should have jacked it in two years ago to come home and win it for them.
How many finals have they lost this century? The defeats to Kerry when they were hammered were probably easier to take.
Dublin are rightly lauded as a magnificent side, one of the best of all time but Mayo had them by the throat in three or four finals (including replays) but never finished them off.
Jimmy White-esque, just very sad but that’s sport.
An absolutely bonkers decision to drop Clarke - a rock solid keeper - for a lad who lives on social media. He was always going to let Mayo down. And so it transpired.
That decision will haunt Rochford til the day he dies.
Aidan O’Shea cost Mayo at least one All Ireland.
Aidan O’Shea cost Mayo at least one All Ireland.
Yeah, when he allegedly told “Rochy” to drop Clarke for his club mate.
And leading the coup against Holmes and Connelly.
The ball must only have been in play for about 2 of the 7 added minutes
Narrowly beaten All Ireland finalists Waterford and. Mayo out of the championship by the end of June. That’s sport for you.
Hon the short grass county

Bump
While I like Derek McGrath, Waterford are going to be screwed by playing their four Munster matches at four different venues. I see real similarities between McGrath and Stephen Rochford. It appears to me that both may well be burned out by agonising defeats over the last couple of years and have returned this year against their better judgement.
Mayo lost? Ah lovely…
