Great minds @mickee321, @Ashman. I was coming into the thread to suggest a cross code double header with one of these qualifier games being held in Mullingar with the hurling.
No love for the losing finalists from the bookies.
The last Monaghan Laois game I was at, saw a tour de force from Sue Ramsbottom.
I was at your massacre of us a few years back in OMP. Think weâd won be previous one.
Sue was some bit of stuff. Like a female Donie.
Fermanagh v Kildare is a much anticipated ten year reunion of their classic Round 4 qualifier game of 2008, which I think remained scoreless for the first 20 minutes, finished 0-11 to 0-5 and was commonly regarded as one of the worst games of all time? That took place at Croke Park in a âvery attractive double headerâ with Kerry v Monaghan on a traditionally dull, overcast, drizzly day and attracted in the region of 25,000 people, hardly any of which actually stayed for both games.
My predictions for dates, venues and times is as follows:
Fermanagh v Kildare - Carrick-On-Shannon 5pm
Leix v Monaghan - Mullingar 7pm
Roscommon v Armagh - Shligo 2pm
Cork v Tyrone - Pearshe Shtadium Sunday 4pm
They might as well bring the Armagh game down to Galway too - the Nordies come down here in their droves around the Glorious Twelfth, so perhaps thereâs possibility of a âvery attractive double headerâ?
Looking further ahead, we now know the implications for the Super 8s (sorry, âAll-Ireland Quarter-Final Round Robin Seriesâ˘â).
I wonât list all the fixtures, but the key points are as follows:
i) A âhugely attractive double headerâ at Croke Park of Kildare v Monaghan followed by Kerry v Galway on Saturday July 14th.
ii) There is the prospect of a âmouthwatering double headerâ of Tyrone v Armagh followed by Dublin v Donegal at âheadquartersâ on Sunday July 15th. That wil be sure to attract âa bumper crowdâ as there are no other competing sporting events on that day.
iii) Dublin will travel to either Cork or Tyrone on July 21st or 22nd. What a prospect. Either a first championship visit to Pairc Ui Chaoimh since 1983, or a much hyped âBattle of Omaghâ. Should it be Tyrone, there will be long debates about whether Omagh can host the game and the possibility of it being moved to Clones. Members of the FDPMPP (Former Dublin Players Media Pressure Panel) will appeal for âsense to prevailâ and for the game to be moved to Clones.
iv) Kildare will host Galway at âFortress Newbridgeâ in front of a jam-packed, sell out attendance (apart from the 4,000 extra people who could be easily fit in) on the same weekend. There will be more epic battles over the venue. #Newbridgeornowhere will ride again.
âThis is a battle for the soul of the GAAâ.
Sid
Were you in PĂĄirc Ui Caoimh at the Dublin v Cork semi replay in 1983 ??
The FDPMPP look like they will be frustrated in their wish to move Tyrone v Dublin to Clones.
Monaghan are due to host Kerry the same weekend!
Perhaps a âmouthwatering double headerâ could be arranged?
Donegal v Tyrone in Ballybofey on August Bank Holiday weekend for a place the All-Ireland semi-finals is also a âmouthwatering prospectâ (Cc: of @Cicero_Dandi).
Likewise Galway v Monaghan in the Shtadium to decide a semi-final place carries similar âmouthwateringâ potential. But, but, butâŚthe Races! Can Galway hold such a massive match on the massivest weekend of the year? There will be traffic and accommodation chaos! Stand by for more fixture controversy!
Enniskillen is a more neutral venue than Sligo.
No, mate, I was a toddler. My father was at it, though.
I had you pegged for mid-forties Sid.
Iâm thinking the four ulster teams will be beaten.
I was there.
It was demoralising added to KK in the hurling they were my most vivid early disappointment
imagine the scenes if Frank beats Tyrone
Mouthwatering doubleheader (cc @mickee321) in Portlaoise on Saturday, Roscommon v Armagh at 3pm and Cork v Tyrone at 5pm.
Kildare v Fermanagh at 7pm in Navan, Laois v Monaghan in Navan at 2pm on Sunday.
For fucks sake
