Galway arenāt capable of doing a Tyrone 2003 or Donegal 2011 on it. Itās just not in the DNA.
Theyāre a grand team but unfortunately for them this is not a good time for an underdog county to come to the party
Galway arenāt capable of doing a Tyrone 2003 or Donegal 2011 on it. Itās just not in the DNA.
Neither was it āin the DNAā of those counties before they did it.
Tyrone were beaten around Croke Park by Meath in 1996, and like the Jews after the Holocaust, decided that from then on, they would be the oppressor rather than the oppressed.
Donegal were a lovable shower of pissheads before they decided to get serious about winning things in 2011.
Same with Clare before Loughnaneās arrival.
If you want to win, you do what you have to do and let everybody else cry ānot fairā.
Galway havenāt won in the Football Championship since in 17 years.
I think their half back line is a huge weakness which will be exposed at Croke Park. Kerry have arguably the best midfield duo in the country and could dominate here also. I certainly wouldnāt like to be relying on guys like Conroy and Flynn in these situations.
They certainly have the attackers to question a shaky looking Kerry defence but Kerry dominate 4 of the 5 lines on the pitch for me and will win in a high scoring game.
Galway have been playing defensive for the past few years under Walsh but it has unravelled on the speed of the Croke Park pitch.
An now raining in Dublin. The neutrals will be out in force

It would be great to get an attendance prediction pool going for the Kerry-Galway game.
But, as itās a fabled āvery attractive double headerā, Alan Milton will claim the total attendance for the day as the attendance for Kerry v Galway, even though the vast majority of those in attendance on the day will have left by 3:45.
I think Alan Brogan tried to claim that 82,000 people attended Dublin v Donegal in 2016 in a similar manner when there were no more than 50,000 people in the stadium after half-time.
Iād say there will be less than 10k in the stadium for it.
Uber Gael alert
Whats irish for virtue signaller
An virtue signaller
Kerry may have some dodgy defenders on the turn and 1v1 but their oace is impressive. Canāt see Galway being able to handle Kerry attacking and as you point out 5-6 Kerry players attacking that Galway h/b line is not good.
I think Kerry became favs for AI yesterday. Could be rubber stamped today
Kerry will score 20 + today. GY wont come near that
Everything about Kerry needs to be tempered until we see how they get on against someone half decent. Today might tell us about where they really are.
Joe Oā Connor is doing some great work with them. They are actually being conditioned to play Gaelic football now. Where as since CON went they were being flogged by Fitzmaurice and running on beaches etc.
Individualized s&c programs too.
More specific skill training from Maurice Fitz
All matters.
Of course they need a real challenge but they have a squad much superior to Galway
I think thereās a lot of nonsense being written about them now without much evidence to back it up. A bit like Roscommon, it does not take much for certain media figures to rave about them.
They have talent but there is a lot of inexperienced players there, it might take a few years for them to adapt.
Dublin are miles ahead of the rest. The other 6 sides donāt have a lot between them while Roscommon are whipping boys.
What nonsense?
Iām saying they were operating at about 70% for the last few years. The had no midfield either really.
Not quite sure they are at Dublins level yet, and thatās what I am saying. Dubs have gone back based on yesterday. I think Kerry have closed gap other way significantly. If for no other reason being properly conditioned
Kildale - Monaghan and Tyrone - Donegal are really the games of the super 8ās. They are knockout games really. They go a long way to deciding the no.2 team in each group.
Were kildare to win today it would be some turn around. Itās hard to get a read on Monaghan form. Intriguing game though
You tipped Kerry as your favourites for AI a few posts back.
Iāve merely pointed out that many people are raving about them on the basis of a couple of wins over ordinary sides. It should be tempered until they play a half decent side.
He called the manager a charlatan the last few years, now he thinks they will win the all Ireland
I think they are favs now. I can see the trajectory of a few teams at the moment. Some have the potential to be real contenders and are going the right way (Kerry/Tyrone/Donegal/Kildare) but maybe at different stages of that process. Galway are going right way, maybe Monaghan too but neither have talent to win AI.
Dubs are pulling back a bit.
I have the ability to see the athletic and skill development in that Kerry side. Maybe you do not. They are chalk and cheese compared to last 2 years. They have all the other imponderables (tradition etc).
Dublin played somebody different/challenging and I think were shown up a little. Had Donegal been full strength it may have been different.
