I listened to the interview that that article has been cribbed from and I dont recall him ever saying he let fame go to this head.

He never admitted anything of the sort. He never said he let fame go to his head, and never said he was a waste of space. He did say he rushed himself back from injury on a few occasions and advised others not to do so.
I didnāt hear all of it but thatās what I took as well, he loves playing, rushes himself back after every injury and lived to regret it each time, put himself in serious harms way playing for his (unfashionable) club as well, I thought he seemed like a smashing lad
