Cluxton was very impressive under the high ball yesterday. He looks like he could just go and go.

His first love is football

If we don’t tell him he’s stupid how else is going to know?

Anyone who believes this Dublin team will live or die by a keeper haven’t a bulls notion.

Cluxton can hang on for 10 in a row and become the most successful captain in inter County history, never to be beaten by standing in goals. Having a howler a match qont cost them if they are winning 10 points plus

What soccer club was it that Cluxton failed to make the grade at?

Think he started out playing junior soccer then was poor enough at pats

Cluxton changed the role of a keeper in GAA terms but there’s easily 5 or 6 keepers as good as or better than him out there with their kickouts now and better shot stoppers there too.

Galligan’s kickouts were immense last night, not many teams win as much primary possession as Cavan did last night against Dublin on their own kickouts but time and time again Galligan was hitting Cavan players against a full press.

It’s a lot easier for Cluxton with the options he has. Guys like Morgan, Beggan and Patton look sensational when they are kicking the ball out against teams who Tyrone, Monaghan and Donegal have much better players than but Cluxton never has to dig into the kind of well that Galligan did last night.

To play for Dublin it’s pretty much a prerquisite that you are/have:

5ft11 or over
Have great athletic ability
Are powerful
And can play

That’s the real key to Dublin’s success - not Cluxton.

In your considered opinion would there be many goalkeepers in the League of Ireland or junior soccer who could make that transition to elite GAA goalkeeper?

I thought the Cavan keeper was immense last night. Unbelieveable accuracy. Cluxton is excellent, he revolutionised the role, but he isnt the reason they are winning.

Evan Comerford seems well primed to replace him.

isnt there a Mayo man by the surname of Slingerman that has played minor\under 21 for Mayo and dabbles in LOI soccer?

Cluxton has ad advantage over other keepers alrite Fulvio in that he is kicking to absolute quality

The scary thing is that Dublin only have won 1 All-Ireland Minor title since 1985. Imagine what will happen when they start sweeping up minor titles. They seem to evolve very rapidly by U20 due to their resources and advantages to help with conditioning. Also I’m starting to have doubts about the Kerry 5 in a row minor team being the generational talents everyone hoped they’d be outside of Clifford and O’ Shea.

McKenna didn’t kick a ball against Donegal. O’Riordan was one of the best players on the field against Cork

Bigger, faster, stronger and their movement is exceptional.

Most intercounty keepers now can ping those balls into an area but the margin for error against Dublin that against other counties is huge. The conditioning falloff between Dublin and the rest is mammoth. They bully teams that other teams can’t bully. Mayo at their peak are the only team who could give them their fill last year but Mayo aren’t that team anymore, Dublin blew them to bits in that last year’s semi.

Dublin played the majority of the AI final last year against Kerry with a man less and it was Kerry who were gassing with 15 minutes to go with Dublin upping the ante as the game went on.

Donegal are a far superior team than Cork.

The game in Ballybofey was played in utterly atrocious conditions. All the big names - Murphy, McHugh, Harte, Donnelly etc were all very very quiet.

O’Riordan is a good player - very athletic and powerful but he doesn’t have a smidgen of natural talent McKenna has.

It’s the physical specimen Dublin produce rather than the footballer. Look at the shape O’Callaghan, Small and Howard transformed themselves into. They work harder in the gyms in the line given - they are pro athletes in reality.
