Btw, have you considered asking your best hurler to, yknow, play hurling?
absolutely it is. Again, thats not a criticism. Dublin are not there to entertain people not from Dublin, they are there to win. Just because it is unattractive or because their opponents drop deep and let them pass endlessly from sire to side isnt their issue. They do what they do to win.
I’d say Matty has him tormented. Hard to blame the young fella in fairness
I actually can’t think of another team that faced a wall nearly every time they played.
Easier pick up soft All Ireland’s in football than to truly test himself I guess.
I was one of the first gpo’s hired in 2004. Dublin hurling was already making strides at that stage.
I think the reason they’ve stalled and haven’t won all Ireland is the quality of coach they invested in. Clearly sub par. Money could only bring them so far.
I’m nearly sure that the GPO initiative started long before that as a trial basis and it was in 2002 then that it was brought in as a specified funding initiative. I recall reading an article about the first coaches involved in it in the late 90s that I’m sure I could find online if I looked, but cant right now.
I also have never said at any stage that money was the sole reason Dublin senior footballers are dominating. There are numerous factors involved. Similar to the numerous reasons why Dublin hurling is not as successful. If I was to be a complete pain in the hole, you could argue that Dublins only really successful period in hurling happened to coincide exactly when they got the additional million per year over 5 years and when that stopped, they fell back to parity. However I dont actually believe that, but, you know…

I coached football too and cluxton the cunt hasn’t mentioned me in one speech.
You clearly weren’t in charge of the humility drills
Gavin had the players but he developed a style of play that cracks GAA football tactically. He took on board basketball style tactics, recycling possession and working a scoring chance. It takes a great deal of athleticism to do it but as a system to win football games it’s close to flawless. For now anyway.
It would be interesting to see a McGuinness coached team go up against this Dublin to see what he might do.

Paul Curran and vinnie Murphy went around the schools on the 90s. That’s probably what you were thinking of. I’d say the two boys did more harm than good
I’ve said all this yesterday. I literally said he’d cracked football and he has. But he realised what he needed to crack it. The athletes and the game plan and the conditioning. Numbers and money mean no other county can match that. Mayo coming close is nothing short of heroic.

I wasn’t really expecting Cluxton to name check me
Jesus you’re a different man after the dinner …you’re like the lads in the snickers adds.
Can the rise of Dublin football be linked to the decline of Irish rugby.

That and the decline in kiddy fiddlers in rugby playing schools.
There was one normally good Dublin team brogan connolly flynn etc. They won two all irelands after years of losing. There then came a brilliant team who also got the tail end of the previous team. Fenton Kilkenny mccaffrey mannion etc. They won 5 in a row. Only problem is they are still young. For me the quality of player coming after isn’t near as good. Only Howard and con o c of the post 2011 minors are brilliant players.

I actually don’t think this Dublin team would have got near 3 in a row even in the 2000s with kerry and Tyrone.
