18.5 to 9.5 is the record winning margin since the current format was adopted in 1979, I was just reading there. That’s been the margin on 3 occasions in 1981, 2004 and 2006. That’s a record that could well fall this weekend.

Didn’t realise we won by that much in 2006. 2004 felt like the mother of all routs though.

Two rounds of golf in the one day can be fairly energy sapping. Especially for a big fellow. It was touched on here earlier that we’re unlikely to see any of the heavy fellows playing two rounds in the one day.

So I’m just guessing here that the heavier team might be poorer at four balls.

It’s now nine years since we won a Ryder Cup in the US, which is the equal longest such famine in my lifetime. It doesn’t bear thinking about the prospect of that famine being extended to 13 years, maybe even 14 if another pandemic or major Islamist terror event in the US in September 2025 comes along.

The Americans have the shit played out of it over the last few weeks I’d say. They were playing out of their own divots at one stage there today.

It was a rough enough looking course the time they played the open or the pga there when Dustin Johnson was disqualified. It’s part of its “charm”.
