2022 FIFA World Cup (Part 1)

This was in reference to the chance Messi set up for Lautaro Martinez who blazed high and wide. Immediately reminded me of the chance Valdano blazed over the bar against Belgium after Maradona had kept the ball in play and put it on a plate for him.

From the Dutch ?

Argentina at the World Cup is the pinnacle of sport.

Those who have a casual interest in football like Brazil.

Those who love football love Argentina.

Lautauro Martinez has a fairly big reputation. Even outside of missed chances he’s been poor for Argentina.

Were you not tempted to go down the British Army route like your grandfather, rather than the FCA?

No. I contributed financially to the IRA so they could kill the British army.

Alvarez is a great bit of stuff for Argentina. I really wish Barça went after him in last January rather than signing Ferran Torres.

Messi was sublime tonight. GOAT.

However, they really do look very limited outside of himself, Alvarez and Enzo Fernandez. Di Maria too will need to have a stormer against the Dutch.

I’m worried about the next one. Overall I think the Netherlands have the better tactician, and slightly more competent technical footballers.

Do you support Barcelona?

I wouldn’t be much of a soccer man, but yes they would always have been my favourites from way back. In addition to obviously being a very successful club, I suppose I fell in love with what the club stood for, as well as the city - wearing no sponsor on the jersey, cult heros like Puyol, Stoichkov etc. Of course a lot of that true “Més que un club” aura is now sadly no longer there in anything but PR but I like to follow them nonetheless.

I find the obsession with the English PL very weird amonst Irish people.

It’s day 15 of the World Cup.

Today Gianni Infantino feels Antarctican.

It was pure good luck that Graham Arnold could read Danish.

Could have been a drawing and numerals and Google translate would tackle what’s left

Could have been that Coach Arnold saw that Denmark brought on two forwards and decided to bring in an extra back.

Could have been Denmark were shit

Could have been Australia got lucky.

Could have been the note.

Could be all the above/none of the above

Google translate?

No, it was the quick thinking of the player and Google translate.

The guy actually reading the note is a coach with Copenhagen.

I’m sure they would have reacted anyway but there’s no harm in doing it a bit quicker. Small margins at the highest level.
