The goalie just kicked him up the arse. Thats a penalty
Brain dead.
No. Different types of players but Kyogo is technically superior and has better movement. Maeda is versatile and usually plays wide for Celtic. He’s more of a direct runner and presses hard from the front but wouldn’t have the touch or intelligence of Kyogo. Hatate in midfield has been excellent for Celtic and he didn’t get near their squad.
He had 2 goes at it just in case he didn’t give the first one
Gundo is a great bit of stuff.
Kamikaze stuff.
Sorry
George’s enthusiasm for the game is far from infectious
Germany getting a lot of possession around the box and have more incision than some of the other teams we’ve seen but do look potentially vulnerable on the break.
I don’t remember Hagi and Stoichkov being involved in too many turgid World Cup games.
I do remember one turgid game Hagi was involved in in which he was the best player on the pitch by a mile, the one where people were dancing on the Cherry Tree roundabout afterwards. But it wasn’t his fault nor Romania’s that that game was turgid.
Over the years Hagi gave us;
USSR 0-2 Romania 1990 (not turgid)
Cameroon 2-1 Romania 1990 (enter Roger Milla)
Argentina 1-1 Romania 1990 - not turgid
Ireland 0-0 Romania 1990 - turgid
Colombia 1-3 Romania 1994 - a classic World Cup game
Romania 1-4 Switzerland 1994 - a classic World Cup game
USA 0-1 Romania 1994 - meh
Romania 3-2 Argentina 1994 - one of the greatest World Cup games ever
Sweden 2-2 Romania 1994 - heartbreaking
Romania 1-0 Colombia 1998 - meh
Romania 2-1 England 1998 - a classic
Romania ? ? Tunisia 1998 - a dead rubber
Romania 0-1 Croatia 1998 - meh
He also gave us the classic Romania 3-2 England at Euro 2000.
A rich legacy.
Stoichkov gave us:
Nigeria 3-0 Bulgaria 1994 (Yekini shaking the net, Stoichkov had a 30 yard free kick goal disallowed)
Bulgaria 4-0 Greece 1994
Argentina 0-2 Bulgaria 1994 - drama in Dallas
Mexico 1-1 Bulgaria 1994 - a tense classic which left a rich legacy as it was the start of Mexico’s run of last 16 exists which would exist until the end of time
Bulgaria 2-1 Germany 1994 - a World Cup all time classic
Italy 2-1 Bulgaria 1994 - a terrific semi-final
Bulgaria’s performance in 1998 I’ll give you alright. They were turgid because they were finished.
Hagi and Stoichkov had the Maradona style personality, the moral courage to own games. Luis Suarez had it too, and I hope he still does. These men bestrode World Cups like colossi.
Sweden beating Romania on penalties in 1994 was one of the great tragic results of World Cup history.
Impressive enough stuff as japs are probably better than most think.
England and the USA gearing up for a reunion too.
Good football, bad shot.
The Japs have no eye at goal here
Germany tearing them apart down their left with Musiala and Rahm
For a spell in 90s every article about Hagi referred to him as “The Maradonna of the Carpathians”
Gündogan keeping things ticking along too, a class player.
Himself and Kimmich is a bang tidy ball playing midfield
Dragan Stojkovic was “the Maradona of the Balkans”.
I’ll be back to you on that, let me dig out a few tapes first.
Musiala has lovely feet, should have done better with the finish.
