He was playing with lads like a shot Matic for most if it, no pace or movement or hold up play ahead or him, no wingers of any note. An unsettled defense.
He was consistently excellent for Juve playing with Pirlo. Reached a UCL final and won the league 4 or 5 times. Got cleaned in a UCL final by Modric in 17’, came back and dominated him in a World Cup final in 18’ and won.
Everywhere else he was bar Manchester United, he was generally very good to excellent. He was a unique player to be that size and to move with that dexterity while having excellent albeit flashy technique.
Man United made him look worse than he was in terms if game intelligence due to the limitations of the players around him. With France in the 16 and 18 final runs, he was incredibly tactically disciplined playing with Matuidi and Kante in a team that played a countering style.
But sure generally great players look even better or at least very good on shite teams. That’s how they get their move to a bigger team. United finished 2nd in the PL a couple of times while he was there but he was still terrible more often than not and almost always in the big games, CL etc. He was always doing the Macarena with Lingard too
