New York reaching a Connaught final would really throw the cat amongst the pigeons. Imagine them then being in the Sam Maguire and displacing someone like Meath. That would be a double bubble for Leitrim born Colm Oâ Rourke.

Whichever team comes through that side of the Connacht draw will be from outside the top 16, itâs built in that whichever team that is will be displacing Cavan, unless Cavan reach the Ulster final, in which place Cavan will displace somebody else.
If the provincial finals are:
Kerry v Clare
Dublin v Offaly
Mayo v Sligo
Derry v CavanâŚ
Fermanagh are out, Meath are out, Kildare are out, Cork are out.
And if Sligo are only one of them to make final who goes into Tailteann cup ?
Fermanagh (presuming Fermanagh donât reach the Ulster final) are replaced by Westmeath - this is built in.
Sligo would replace Cavan (presuming Cavan donât reach the Ulster final) - again - this is built in.
If Fermanagh or/and Cavan reach the Ulster final, the relegation moves up the list to the lowest ranked teams who havenât made provincial finals.
Whatever happens, at least two of the ranked top 16 are going down into the Tommy Two Bob, because Westmeath are IN the main draw for the big cup and either Sligo or New York are also IN.
Permutations for each county currently in the top 16 to reach the group stages for the big cup:
Fermanagh
Must reach the Ulster final
Cavan
Must reach the Ulster final
Meath
If Cavan or Fermanagh reach the Ulster final, or Clare reach the Munster final, theyâre out unless they reach the Leinster final
Kildare
If two non-Connacht provincial finalists come from below their rank of number 12, ie. Meath and Cavan, theyâre fucked.
Unless itâs Westmeath who reach the Leinster final, in which case Westmeath, who are outside the top 16, but in reality are in it, would replaceâŚWestmeath.
Westmeath are a Schrodingerâs Top 16 team. Theyâre both outside the top 16 and in it.

Means Meath have to reach the Leinster final or theyâre into the Toblerone Cup.
Cork arenât safe from demotion either.
Clare by jaysus always hard to beat in Ennis.
Means that either limerick or Clare will play sam Maguire and Meath are in the tailteann now.
Correction
Meath have to beat Offaly/Longford and westmeath/Louth to make the Leinster final.
Kildare would be the next in line to fall out. They are in the Dublin half for Leinster.
Cavan v Armagh and Down v Donegal are now massive games for Kildare and Cork.
If Cavan or Down reach the Ulster final, Kildare are goosed.
And if that happens, and then Meath reach the Leinster final, Cork are out.
Itâs possible Kerry could eliminate Cork by throwing their game against Tipperary.

The new format is absolutely box office. The tailteann will be too with all the big counties in it playing for their place in Sam next year

Under this system itâs technically possible that the number 8 ranked team, which is the team which loses the NFL Division 2 final (this year Derry) could be bumped down to the Timmy Cup.
That would happen if you have eight teams reaching provincial finals from outside the top 16, and the previous yearâs Terri Towels Cup winner is also ranked outside the top 16, but does not reach a provincial final.
A BOX OFFICE group of Dublin, Roscommon, Westmeath and New York is ON. What a prospect.
Dublin v New York would be at a neutral venue as they would be the number 1 and 2 seeds respectively.
Youâd want to be the proverbial fly on the wall at the CC/CCC/CCCC meeting which decides the neutral venue for that one.
