The early years of the qualifier system were tremendous fun. You had iconic qualifier runs from the likes of Sligo, Fermanagh and Westmeath. Kerry being in serious peril against Sligo and Antrim is almost unthinkable now. Wicklow scalping 3 Ulster opponents in fortress Aughrim in 2009 was very memorable too. Of course the GAA actually deprived them of a place in the qualifiers the two previous years in 07’ and 08’ with their tampering and lack of respect towards division 4 teams.

Longford v Derry at Fortress Glennon Brothers Pearse Park has to be the definitive qualifier game.
Fortress GBPP was the perennial graveyard of Derry hopes.

Kerry defence abysmal not a glove laid on Carr and he collected the ball on the sideline by the 45. Game should be over. Kerry are Tailteann cup standard without Cliffords.
Mayo are playing a lovely style, some great kick passes to go with the handpassing. Five up when a seven or eight point lead wouldn’t flatter them.
Three goal chances spurned, you just know Kerry will stick the first one they get.
Very enjoyable game, better than 98% of provincial matches at any rate.
