Leave Shay be. He carried the Irish team on his own for a few years.

Beautiful to see all the lads who started supporting Liverpool and Man Utd when they were 8 seething. Grow up lads and support your local teams. They could do with the money.

Supporting the lol league?

I support my local team in the same way I support Liverpool.

Democracies die because of people like you, who not just accept but go out and actively cheerlead human rights abusing despots.

They’d rather get the plane to England and destroy the environment.

After tomnight and the unfortunate retirement of Zlatan this week soccer should be stopped. We can lead the way in ireland and do away with it. We have hurling and proper football, rubby for a short time more but that’ll end itself.

How many times have you been to see Galway United this year? Zero? Club Football is a joke, has been since Franco bought all the European Cups for Madrid. Chinesse owners over Inter. 103 million for Bellingham but its ok apparently. International football is the only pure form of football.

Zero. I haven’t been to see Liverpool either. So I support both teams in the same way.

You said I support Liverpool. I do. I also support Galway United. I’ve been to a Galway United match more recently than I’ve been to a Liverpool match.

You say club football is a joke. So why then should I bother going to a Galway United match?

You’re not selling this very well.

Again, democracies die because of people like you who cheerlead on despotism.

Dudek’esque

A game of inches, the sheer beauty of sport…

It was a terrible header moreso than a great save

Changing the game

If Julian Alvarez played for inter they’d have won. That’s the annoying thing. The stockpiling of good players at the big clubs really dilutes competition.

City buying Alvarez was some bit of foresight and business. They’ve obviously invested very well behind the scenes in their scouting and transfer department. Gone are the days of them throwing money at three different players for the same position hoping one will work out, and inevitably all flopping. They’ve even got it right with the defenders, an area they struggled for years, Akanji being the latest example.

It’s been that way for years though. Having 4 good strikers to pick from was one of the main reasons United were the first Manchester team to win the treble. Cole was bought from a main rival for a British transfer record fee, and Yorke was also bought from a rival for a record fee. At least City have done most of their recruitment from outside England which has helped keep things somewhat competitive in the league.

The bigger clubs have seriously upped their game. The likes of Brighton are so shrewd now you have to be very careful signing players. Nobody will buy flops like before.

Both city and Real Madrid are clearly very good at identifying the best young players.
