He reminds me a bit of Big Rob Ryan in terms of having a commanding presence that rubs a lot of people up the wrong way.
He’s hated in Tipp for sending off McGrath x2 for Loughmore, but it should also be noted he played a key role in ensuring the famous Ballygunner v Borrisieigh match turned into the epic it was.
The way he calmly walked 50 yards into the pitch yesterday to chat to the referee, you just knew that somebody was going to see red.
I think he’s too whistle-happy even at club level while also completely ignoring the steps rule.
Basically if you get the ball, you might as well just put the head down and run into someone because he will give you a free. You can defend as well as you like but if a player doesn’t play the ball and keeps running, you will foul eventually.
We played Cappamore a few years back in the Gaelic Grounds and I think Tommy O’Donoghue scored 0-19 from placed balls for Cappamore and Shaun Barry scored 0-13 from frees for us. And there wasn’t a dirty stroke in the match. Basically no hurling whatsoever.
Clifford is rightly getting all the accolades on Social Media today, but Paul Mannion was very, very good for Kilmacud Crokes* kicking 5 absolutely unreal points in the first half yesterday. He won’t get the credit for it though.
I wonder could Naas make it tricky for Kilmacud Crokes* in a couple of weeks.
If Naas win the Hurling on Saturday apparently the Leinster Club Football Final will be deferred a week. My understanding was though that like Kilmacud Crokes*(*) last year there are no dual players involved.
() Kilmacud Crokes did have one dual player Sheehy who was a starter for the hurlers but a sub at the time for the footballers.
