Whatever about the Duran case specifically, I’m glad this Saudi league has gained absolutely fuck all traction. I think the initial surge of renowned players going over there had me thinking it would end being broadcast & built up by the usual suspects. But there’s no interest in it at all.

The Saudis could sign Messi, Mbappe, Modric, Haaland, Salah, De Bruyne, Vinicius, Kane, Lewandowski, Neymar and Griezmann for their league, and still nobody outside Saudi Arabia would watch it.

The Saudis are trying to turn their league into a world attraction pretty much overnight. Won’t happen. Saudi Arabia has probably the least cultural cachet of any country on earth. Nobody will give a fuck.

Like, it doesn’t matter how many top players you sign for Saudi club teams, nobody is going to give a fuck about Saudi club football, same as nobody gave a fuck about LIV events.
