They would be as well off taking the top 3 of the Joe Mc and the 5 sides from Leinster and Munster who were knocked out of Munster and have them play for something akin to what was the old all Ireland intermediate hurling championship. Handicap the two Munster sides and the bigger name Leinster side so they can’t use any players who played championship earlier in the year so it is a development competition for them and lads on the periphery/extended panel get a chance to impress with some under 20s thrown in.
Straight knockout in June before club championship gets up and running. Think it would be a better competition than the current preliminary stuff bringing in the Joe mc finalists - gives Antrim, Carlow and the better Joe Mc sides a winnable cup too.
