Iâll never tire of his eulogising of Jim. However, I suspect a day will come when he decides to go anti-Jim solely out of being bored of his own arguments.
Kerry lost the majority of kickouts in their semi-final and could have won by 20 points. I wouldnât like to see what they could do if they break even on kickouts.
Donegal did win by 20 points but itâs a lot better to win your semi-final by 6 than by 20. Kerry were also up against a much better team than Donegal were up against.
Jim McGuinness is one of the greatest Gaelic football managers of all time.
But Jack OâConnor is the greatest Kerry manager ever.
I tipped Donegal at the start of the year and I think they will win the final but I wouldnât be betting more than the price of a pint on the outcome. Kerry are a lot better now than in 2022 and 2023 and OâConnor has developed an exceeedingly strong squad that can cover any injury loss and that squad should be stronger for the final with returning options in Tom OâSullivan, Diarmuid OâConnor and Paul Geaney.
Paul Flynn I think was on the money in predicting that Paul Geaney will be an absolutely key player for Kerry because of his experience and ability to take the right option at speed with his hands with Killian Spillane being best off being kept in reserve for when the game begins to open up. Speed of movement of the ball inside the arc when the other team has 12 players back will be key.
I worry for Donegal that Kerry have better two point options.
I think itâs possible Jimmy might do a Peter Canavan âbring him off and then bring him on againâ job with Michael Murphy.
My concern for Donegal would be itâs been a while since theyâve faced a real, genuine all Ireland contender. Probably have to go back to May 24 when they played Tyrone and they were fairly ordinary then. Itâs hard to know where comfortably beating Louth, Monaghan and Meath leaves them in the grand scheme of things.
At the beginning of the season there was 7 teams under 14/1 for the all-Ireland. Kerry, Dublin, Donegal, Armagh, Galway, Tyrone and Mayo. Donegal scraped by Mayo in the round robin, scraped by Armagh after ET and lost fairly comfortably to Tyrone. Meanwhile Kerry have fairly comfortably disposed of Tyrone and Armagh in the past two games.
He backed Dublin against everyone for about 10 years there.
He also turned on McGuinness then when Jim Gavin dismantled the blanket
Kerry donât have a stellar record of late when playing in blue in Croke Park.
2017 v Mayo LOST
2017 v Mayo DREW
2014 v Mayo DREW
2012 v Donegal LOST
2011 v Limerick is the last time they won a championship match in Croke Park playing in blue.
Exception to the rule.
Joe is the ultimate band wagonner⌠He had the horn for Tyrone when they were in there pomp under Harte then made himself an honorary Dub
Clifford got brolly fired from Rte in reality.
He had a complete meltdown in 2019 wasnât it?
Where was that Tyrone full forward this year, the fella who made them pay him stay around a few years ago? He had no neck and a shaved head.
Aye thatâs the fella, a head like a thumb.
Kerry will win .
Strabane are no florida soccer soldiers , but still.a big step up
Mc Cole will take Clifford
Iâd be surprised if he scores 1-09 off him anyway. McCole is a beast. Stickiest Iâve seen in a long time and if we beat Kerry, a decent shout for POTY.
Probably not seeing as they look nothing alike
But At least Johnny Mucker from Kilmacshite can book his two weeks in Santa Ponsa for July
Itâs great to see Kerry and David back in an All Ireland final.
