Thatā€™s a travesty

Jesus Christ, itā€™s disgusting. Like a massive pigeon loft.

Itā€™s limerick though, itā€™ll be a vast improvement

Sorry for the delay with the sneery comments but better late than never

  • Sarsfield House is indefensible -Apart from being a pretty ugly building the main crime is that it blocks the view of the historic section of the city from the Commercial area.

  • Arthurs Quay is not entirely a disaster as you state - You take it out of context of what it replaced. The area was a tumbling down ramshakle in the 70ā€™s. It brought a certain much needed retail presence to the city. You might argue that the quality isnā€™t great but all you have to do is walk up William Street to see the context of the city. Some decent retailers in the midst of absolute dirge.

  • The state of Georgian buildings in Limerick is varied. generally the building around Perry Square (especially the Trondine Buildings) are very well kept but as you know these were later and superior quality than the general housing stock. the general housing stock is in poor condition. It really is not economically viable for private owners to bring them back to usable function. And that leads into the most pressing matter. What use are these buildings? The major problem is that these buildings are only suitable for single occupancy. Fire regulations make the refitting of these buildings uneconomical and destructive of the original material. For single occupancy the back yards that are needed to serve the houses have been built over and the lanes ways were not constructed for modern vehicles. They might be suitable for retired couples but I for one would not raise kids in there.

There is a mini- industry in this city with reports being generated peddling whatever you want to hear. The councils PR is unbelievably positive and you would expect it to be. ULā€™s Architectural School are producing reports that would be great if we lived in the city that theyā€™d like to live in and not the one we do. In reality however the city is struggling and the fuckups being made with the Oā€™Connell Street Upgrades and the Opera Centre would give major cause for concern if you werenā€™t already beaten down with by decades of decline.

At least you actually care. Fair play. Next time Iā€™m in that direction Iā€™m going to actually go in to the city and have a stroll round. Itā€™s been years since I was there properly. Although you are making it sound like a shitholeā€¦

I knew heā€™d come out all guns blazing eventuallyā€¦ Limerick city centre is lovely, but has eyes in and around it.

Fair post and a well balanced opinion, but what I like most about it is that you fail to come across as a stoned feminist cunt, as some parties involved in the planning discussion do.

Yerrah Iā€™m a cunt but I know I am.

Bumped for @Mac

He tee-ed this one up lovely. The Doctor of Histoy :joy:

Jaysus if that lad @anon61956325 was still around he would find it had to defend this lad.
