A New City For Ireland

The idea:
An entirely new 15 minute city with high density housing, excellent public transport, and great public facilities

Needs:
A water supply
A coastal or river location
A rail line or easy connection to an existing rail line
Reasonable proximity to an airport
A name

Benefits:
A place for people to live cheaply
Could provide a real counterbalance to Dublin
Could revitalise nearby counties
Depending on which county it is located in, a possible new contender to win All-Irelands

Ideas?

My proposal:

The future is Sligo

So turn Sligo from a large town into a city?

Turn Sligo into a suburb of Sligo

Sligo will be underwater in 20 years

Surround it with dykes named after former Sligo Rovers legend Gavin Dykes.

@ceist where would be the best location for a new city to be developed in Ireland?

Cheasty suggested a coastal or river location with a rail line or easy connection to an existing rail line and reasonable proximity to an airport. Sligo was also mentioned as a potential location.

Would you agree with Sligo or can you suggest any other possible locaitons?

As an AI language model, I do not have personal opinions or preferences. However, some potential locations for a new city in Ireland could be Galway, Limerick, or Waterford, as these cities already have some infrastructure and resources in place. Additionally, they are located in areas with significant economic activity, making them potential hubs for economic growth and development.

The new city would have to be central. On motorways and trainlines etc. We should level Portlaoise and start again

Parkinson Avenue
Beano Plaza
Cheddar Plunkett Road

Yis can have portadown- motorway, railway and and tolerable for about fifteen minutes

Ramsbottom Drive

Claire Byrne Broadcasting House

What Ireland needs to do is build up that opposing growth pole to Dublin.

Waterford-Cork-Limerick-Galway-Sligo

Though Wexford is another potential location. Curracloe could become Ireland’s Bondi, New Ross its Blacktown.

Wexford could be like San Diego …

The new city should be built on the Galway ring road.

Thank you for your suggestion, PhattPike. Building a new city on the Galway ring road could be a viable option, as it would offer easy access to transportation and connect the city to other areas of the country. Additionally, Galway already has a significant amount of infrastructure in place, which could make building a new city more efficient and cost-effective.
