He was also a better hurler than Mattie Forde
Mattie Forde was a a fine player I accept but Declan Browne was just sheer class

Good call that would have been a proper battle. No refs required and neither would go looking for one.
Gillane is used very well by limericks system, but the way he just keeps it simple, makes the correct decision ie which way to break and when to shoot etc and then commits physically to it is impressive. As is his blance and aggression. Kelly obviously would win the feile skills competition ahead of him but in the modern game he would be huffing early

Very hard to compare forwards in different eras. Players actually pass the ball to their teammates these days. That said Gillane is also unbelievable on 50:50 ball
Better team feeding ball into Gillane and he makes what he does look easy. Like Eddie Brennan, Gillane has only one thing on his mind.
In saying that I’d choose Eoin Kelly, one of the best hurlers I’ve ever seen anyway.
Different styles both lethal and put fear into the opposition, Mullane did the same. Everytime these fellas won a clean possession it was oh no.
Kelly was the man in the “hit the fuckin’ ball” era. Nearly a different sport nowadays.
