Didnât really want to post in this thread today, tank i sympathise with your friend, surely with a threat to her health she should be allowed an abortion if she needed it, such a protection already exists arguably. The opinion of individuals like him has been destroyed in every debate in Ireland in the last few decades, divorce, contraception, same sex marriage, and now abortion. Do you support his view that women who have early state abortions are murderers?
You describe all stages of pregnancy as a child or a baby, which is the language used by religious zealots, and those that have zero knowledge of biology. What is shocking about the images?, a fetus at 12 weeks feels nothing and there is zero difference between it and natural abortions at that stage, which outnumber elective abortions by a factor of 10:1. Are you equally outraged by all these natural abortions? and if not why not, the result is the same, a human life denied to millions.

You support the RC church position 100% on this, the view that from conception on human life has to be protected and has the same value as itâs mother. Thatâs whatâs in the Irish constitution that you support. An absolutely nonsensical position that only religious zealots can hold. Look around you at the people who share your view and use the same language as you.
Do you believe that a woman who takes an abortion pill at 5 weeks to terminate an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy is a murderer? Yes or no, answer the question.
Yes, I believe the life of a viable fetus should be protected, unless the life of itâs mother is endangered. Thereâs no moral dilemma for most rational people holding that opinion while allowing for early stage termination.

Itâs a lot more difficult to get hold of photos of adult corpses killed by the 8th amendment, even so I donât think anybody would bother

I think there is a lot of people voting yes for the same reason a lot of people are voting no. Itâs the twelve week thing. The "soft " yes side while not happy with it see it as the lesser of two evils. The âsoftâ no side feel it is too much of a concession.
I think it will get through. If it does so be it. We are after all living in a democracy. If itâs a no vote, it should not be the end of it as I totally agree that the so called âhard casesâ do need to be accommodated.
You have to draw the line somewhere though on elective abortion. The religious zealots want to draw it at day 1 and the militant feminists at day 280. Thankfully both are in a small minority and their views can be ignored. Personally I would draw the line (for Ireland) at 10 weeks which is the limit of when the pill can be used, and the impact on the woman is not a lot different to a natural miscarriage.
I hate the term âhard casesâ as it implies elective abortion is somehow an easy choice. As @caoimhaoin said, anyone who looks into the eyes of someone who is planning to have or just had an abortion would understand this. Itâs something most men can empathize with, especially if it is their partner or wife, but can never know what itâs like.

If an Irish woman wants an abortion now she can go to the UK.
Iâm happy with that set up. If Ireland votes yes then loads of women will still go to the UK for post 12 week exterminations. Let them off.
If Ireland votes No we keep this disgusting inhumane act out of our country, and that is worth celebrating.
The poor unfortunates who need an abortion on medical grounds or because they have been raped can ask simon harris why he decided it was a good idea to lump them in with the lifestyle abortionists. Hopefully that despicable little rat faced toad will be able to come up with a good answer for them that will make rhem feel a bit better because it will be an utterly appalling situation harris created for them.
