Yeah Geelong and Sydney won their first finals game so got the bye this week. Geelong play Brisbane next friday at the MCG. Tomorrows game bounces off at 10.30am, the winners playing Sydney next Saturday morning.

I lived there as a kid when there wasnt even a Freo team. Canāt get more hipster than that

depends how you define hipster. Eagles are the main team in perth, established in 1990 and set up as West Coast to basically represent a state entity. So Freo came in about 1996 or so and are the much smaller supported team and a lot of anti Eagles fans would have declared for Freo then. Perth is an eagles city, the media fawn over them and even when the eagles are shit, they garner more attention than Freo.
So there is that. Also then Fremantle itself is a hipster place in Perth. So a lot of people moving to Perth might start following Freo just so they are different and not going with the crowd. Which I suppose is the definition of hipster.

I used to love that ginger lad who played in the middle of the park for Geelong back in the halcyon days around 2007.
Think he does some punditry these days for Channel 7. Makes an appearance in what in my opinion is one of the greatest post game sporting montages of all time.
Established in 87, arrived in WA that year.
All of WA supported them. Then when Freo came along, what were previously eagles fans in the afl but south/east Freo reverted to support the Dockers

Why would there have been anti Eagles fans in Perth at that time? Would have thought any anti Eagles fans just wouldnāt have been a fan of the sport? Be like the anti Munster heads here getting behind a new pro rugby team in Limerick 
in some peopleās eyes, the eagles came at the expense of a very strong local competition called the WAFL.
They were then joining the Victorian Football League so seen as doffing to another State.

Youād have a lot of inter state people moving who would have followed other teams in Victoria but wouldnt get on board with the Eagles out of spite. Eagles, from what I would have been told, wasnt there at the time or anything, were not particularly liked by Vic teams as they got a lot of picks and privileges to start up. And then the local WAFL got fucked over as the stronger players that were in what was a proud league were lost to the Eagles team. So Freo gave them a better option then later on as they werent as divisive.
