McGovern to win it after the siren!
McGovern gets nowhere near!
The G erupts!
GOOD OLD COLLINGWOOD FOREVER!!!
Essendon fighting for their very lives here in the final quarter against Fremantle at the G.
8 minutes ago their season looked over they were 57-82 down. Now theyâre 87-82 up. Under 6 minutes left.
This is stirring stuff.
Essendon give away a free kick inside the last minute. Freo goal, 89-89.
Durham scores a behind as good as a goal with 23 seconds left!
Bombers win 90-89!
Two absolutely huge retirements in Aussie rules today. Dustin Martin (with immediate effect) and Tom Hawkins (at end of the season).
Martin might well be one of the greatest players in the gameâs history.
Tom Hawkins would be one of my favourite ever players. The game will be significantly poorer for their absence.
The Swansâ collapse continues.
Collingwood lead 84-59 at the SCG with 14 minutes left.
Uh oh. Three quick goals to Sydney. Collingwood only 84-77 up. 9:10 left. Collingwood MUST win this latest edition of the Nick Davis Derby.
Heeney brings it back to a 2 point game. 5:07 left. Youâd have to be on the Swans now. Collingwood not finding anything up front.
Collingwood have folded like the Serbian basketball team. Swans in front.
Sydney 89 Collingwood 86 FT.
Gone-ingwood. A capitulation.
Things that have happened since Collingwood last retained the Premiership:
Tipperary retained the All-Ireland senior hurling championship several times.
Mayo have won two All-Ireland senior football titles.
Germany annexed Austria.
Two huge AWAY wins this morning.
GWS surged late to end Brisbaneâs winning run at The Gabba.
Geelong about to beat Fremantle at the WACA.
GWS have found some serious form. Freoâs finals participation now hanging by a thread with two hoorishly tough games to come against GWS and Port Adelaide.
Surely even Essendon canât fuck up at home to the Gold Coast Suns later today to go level with Freo on points.
My God.
Essendon 86 Gold Coast 87. A game rich in drama and narrative.
Mac Andrew grabs a contested mark with 20 seconds left and kicks a goal after the siren to deliver the Gold Coastâs first and only away win of the season under Essendon legend Damien Hardwick. And you KNEW it was coming. You knew. You knew Essendon would blow it.
Essendon are some idiots. The game was 81-81 with about seven minutes left and they proceeded to kick five behinds in a row. By God, the chances they had to put the game to bed.
Essendon scored 1.9 in the final quarter. Jake Stringer is about to get bombed out of the Bombers for his string of last quarter misses.
Theyâre done and they thoroughly deserve to be done.
Incredible scenes at the MCG. Collingwood come from 60-78 down with five minutes left to beat Brisbane 79-78 in the rematch of last yearâs Grand Final and keep their season on life support.
Off season recruiting disappointment Lachie Schultz finally delivers with two of the three key late goals. Beau McCreery hit the winner with two and a half minutes left and Collingwood somehow held on to the one point margin.
Nick Daicos should win the Brownlow off this game alone.
You wonât see better sport anywhere in the world this weekend.
Collingwood neat to beat Melbourne next Friday in their final regular season fixture and hope the cards fall their way for them to make the eight.
This whole league seems to be based around Collingwood, not too dissimilar to Tipperary in the hurling. Cc @peddlerscross
Unable to go back to back as well!
Collingwood are BIGNESS.
This is the penultimate weekend of the regular season. Hereâs the ladder as it stands.
10:30 games today are Port Adelaide v Adelaide and St. Kilda v Geelong. Youâd think Port and Geelong should secure their place in the top four.
Brisbane will be 5th as theyâll pummel Essendon at the Gabba next week.
Then we have the BOX OFFICE scrap for the last three places in the eight.
Footscray have to play North Melbourne and GWS. Thatâs probably one win and one loss there. Theyâve a big percentage advantage over Collingwood which is huge at this stage.
Hawthorn have the golden ticket of playing Richmond and North Melbourne in their last two games. Theyâll get to 56 and will be in the eight.
Carlton have collapsed, losing six of their last seven. Theyâre decimated by injuries. They have two very winnable games away to West Coast and home to St. Kilda but I think West Coast could do them tomorrow.
Collingwood will beat Melbourne next week and get to 52 points.
Itâll come to down to Freo playing Port Adelaide in Perth next week.
What kind of crowds are GWS getting? I was in Oz their first year and they had no one following them
Fairly shite. They played Freo in Canberra this morning and it was empty seats ahoy.
Their home games average around 10k at the moment but that can go up if they play Collingwood or the Swans.
GWS are going particularly well at the moment though so you wouldnât want to see the crowds if they were bad.
The Olympic park probably isnât a great place to attract crowds, 'tis a bit soulless.
Tasmania is getting a team in three or four yearsâ time but Iâm not sure why a Canberra team isnât on the table at the moment which would bring the league to 20 teams.
Iâd love to see a team in the north but itâd be costly and a logistical nightmare. And theyâd be shite
