The Unforgettable Fire by U2

Listened it to first time years and enjoyed it again
Bono does some great screeching on “A sort of homecoming”

Found an ancient cd of 3 feet high and rising today. Threw it on in car, most pleasant drive I’ve done in years.

London 0 Hull 4 by The Housemartins.

Well over 30 years since I’ve played this album and I still know every word of it. Fair enough they used around four chords for all the songs but very catchy while being quite preachy.

Listening to this now. After some years. Very very good.

I was clearing a lot of old emails up today and found a piece I wrote on that album maybe a decade ago. I’m genuinely not sure if it was ever published, and would be glad if it wasn’t !

Released 30 years ago last month. I was listening to it yesterday.

It’s a winter album all ends up.

Utterly useless non-anecdote: On the evening of July 19th, 2000, I was in Jack White’s pub in Wicklow, where Catherine Nevin murdered Tom Nevin. It was the only time I was ever there.

There was a lowish hum in the background which was music from My Bloody Valentine’s first album, “Isn’t Anything”.

This was a surprise to me as I very much had not expected to hear My Bloody Valentine’s music playing there.

Throw it up here!

Metallica “Black Album”. I have not listened to it in a long long time, much preferring the other earlier albums, but revisited the remaster CD recently and it’s not that bad at all. Now I can see what the fuss was about first time around. It is a very nostalgic listen as well, as I had it on tape for the walkman, so can remember different days out and things I was doing while listening to it years ago. I remember I had copies of the Black Album, U2 Achtung Baby, Queen Kind of Magic, and some random songs taped off the radio and was trying to learn guitar bits of each one of them with a shit amp and a shit guitar. I had no pedals to give me fancy effects and noises.

Give the “The 20 Million Club” podcast a listen. They covered this album recently. A decent listen.
Most Metallica die hards think this is the album they sold out and went more commercial. Ballads like Nothing Else Matters and all that
