All England Lawn Tennis Championship 2013

Proceedings under way in SW19 on Monday in the big one, the showpiece of the tennis year. This morning’s draw has been commented on elsewhere but in fairness the world’s premier tennis competition warrants a thread of its own.

In the Gentlemen’s Singles, Novak has the plum draw but in fairness as the world’s top player for the past few years now he has earned it. I would rank him a clear favourite to prevail on July 7. If he’s running Nadal to 9-7 in a 5th set on the muck in Paris, he’s tuning up nicely for the big one.

A lot of focus will be on whether Federer can win the record 8th title and pull clear of Renshaw and Sampras. Its a big ask. Just a few weeks shy of his 32nd birthday, he’d be the oldest champion since Arthur Ashe in 1975 and he has started to show his age over the past 12 months.

Ultimately I’d expect Andy to advance to the final from the bottom half of the draw.

Nadal will win it and it will be the greatest grand slam victory of the modern era as he will have had to beat the top three ranked players in the world at the minute to do so.

Its ridiculous that Nadal has been seeded 5. He should have been seeded at least 3 after the form he’s shown since his comeback in February.

With that draw, cannot see Federer winning the title. His biggest problem of late has been his waning physical powers and recovering from tough matches next time out. Even if he somehow got over Nadal, he most likely will still have Murray and Djokovic ahead.

Cannot see too many problems for Novak getting to final. Seeded to meet Chardy, Haas, Berdych & Ferrer. He won’t trip up to any of those.

Murray has a few tricky road blocks. Benjamin Becker one of the tougher first round assignments you could get. Cilic or Tsonga should provide a tough examination in the quarter final.

Federer looks to have an easy enough run to the quarters.

Warwinka/Hewitt an interesting first round match in Nadal’s quarter. Winner of that game or John Isner would make for an interesting fourth round opponent, but hard to see anything other than a Nadal/Federer quarter final match up.

Ultimately, I reckon it will be a Nadal v Djokovic final. I won’t make any predictions yet on that front until we see what kind of form they’re both in.

I’d strongly fancy Del Potro to take Ferrer out in the quarters and set up a semi-final appearance with Djokovic. Del Potro is probably the strongest opponent outside of the big four when he is in form and gets his forehand firing.

Azerenka slips and starts roaring in agony like someone who has done her cruciate. Umpire and some Bint from the WTA come to her aid. The whinging cunt is back up playing a few minutes later. Fuck all wrong with her

she must have been watching yer man Conlon from Clare yesterday

She must have been watching Murray do the same in the Queens club final.

See WF the seedings are wimbledon take into account the players current world ranking and their performance at Wimbledon the year before and since Nadal was knocked out last year in the second round and that he is seeded 5 in the world it is only right that he seeded 5.

This is grass not the shit clay, Djokovic will win this year. Murray, Nadal and Federer will kill each other in their half of the draw just getting to the final where Djokovic will pick them off.

This Mladenovic one has a weapon of a body on her. Yup outs dat!

Yep she has a good body the face is not great,

Nope he got knocked out in the second round. Darcis needs to keep the pressure on.

Nadal starting to limp now:rolleyes:

He is being found out now on a faster surface. the excuses are starting already.

This is precarious.

The balls aren’t travelling at walking pace at Wimbledon like they do in Paris. He has been found out.

His two Wimbledon titles suggest you are clueless.

Field tennis is rubbish anyway.

Quite clearly Nadal is injured.
